Gilgamesh is a recurring optional boss in Final Fantasy Resonance. He shows up early, steals a piece of Genji gear, and keeps coming back until you beat him properly. The figures below are from the launch version on Normal difficulty.
Quick answer: You fight Gilgamesh three times. In Siren’s Tower in Chapter 1 he steals the Genji Gloves and the fight ends on its own. On the airship from Chapter 5 he is Lv 40 with 90,000 HP, and beating him returns the Genji Gloves. On the Kolobos Bridge, at the end of “Battle at the Big Bridge“, he is Lv 45 with 180,000 HP, and beating him gives the Genji Armor.
| Fight | Where | When | Lv | HP | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Siren’s Tower | Chapter 1 | 11 | 6,000 | None (the fight ends by script; he takes the Genji Gloves) |
| 2 | Airship | From Chapter 5 | 40 | 90,000 | 10,000 EXP, 12,000 Gil, Genji Gloves returned |
| 3 | Kolobos Bridge (“Battle at the Big Bridge”) | After the airship win | 45 | 180,000 | 22,000 EXP, 20,000 Gil, Genji Armor |

Fight 1: Siren’s Tower (Chapter 1)
Inside Siren’s Tower, follow the long corridor into the tower’s second area. The chest at its north end holds the Genji Gloves. Opening it triggers a scene: “Hold it right there, cur!” … “Here’s Gilgamesh, in the flesh!” Rain answers “G-Gilgamesh!?” and Lasswell asks “You know him?” A battle follows, and you cannot escape it.

Libra shows the following for this first encounter:
- Lv 11, 6,000 HP
- Type: Humanoid
- No elemental weakness
- Trait: “Difficult to stagger.”
- No drops
- Can steal: Ether

Early on, Gilgamesh tries to read Rain’s weakness (“I see…so your name is Rain! And your weakness is…”) and finds there isn’t one. His reaction: “W-what!? “None”!? That’s cheating!”

Partway through the battle, the message “Genji Gloves stolen!” appears on screen.

Soon after, the fight ends by itself with Gilgamesh’s line “I suppose you’ve all learned your lesson for today. This is where I bid you adieu!” There is no Battle Result screen, so you get no EXP or Gil. The outcome is the same whether you win or not.

He won’t hand the gloves back (“What I’ve rightfully stolen is mine! And what’s mine is mine!”) and jumps off the tower with “Bye-onara, Rain!”

Rain closes the scene with “Let’s get going. Although, I’ve a feeling we haven’t seen the last of him yet.” The gloves stay gone until the airship rematch; the full route is in how to get the Genji Gloves back.

At your next encounter, Gilgamesh is not looking for a fight. He is at Waterfall Way in the Olderion region, where you can speak with him; the gloves remain with him for now.
A conversation with Gilgamesh is also possible aboard a train traveling the Zoldaad line. This optional encounter is not needed to unlock any of the battles.
Fight 2: The Airship (Chapter 5)
Gilgamesh comes back for a real fight: he appears on the airship from Chapter 5 (not always on the first visit). Finding him prompts a challenge. You may turn it down and return to fight him later.
| Stat | Airship Gilgamesh |
|---|---|
| Level | Lv 40 |
| HP | 90,000 |
| Trait | “Extremely difficult to stagger.” |
| Summons | Cactuar, Tonberry, Bomb |
| Can steal | Shuriken, Fuma Shuriken |
| Reward | 10,000 EXP, 12,000 Gil, Genji Gloves |
Bring healing items and Phoenix Downs. Gilgamesh calls in a Cactuar, a Tonberry and a Bomb during the fight, so clear the summons quickly before they pile on. Because he is so hard to stagger, the fight rewards steady, constant damage on him rather than waiting for a break.

Win and he keeps his word: “I promised that I would give them to you once you were stronger, did I not?” The Genji Gloves go back into your inventory along with the EXP and Gil.
Fight 3: Battle at the Big Bridge
Defeat Gilgamesh aboard the airship to unlock the Chapter 5 side quest “Battle at the Big Bridge”. It appears in your quest log with the other side quests. Gilgamesh explains that he crossed over from another world but remembers nothing. His clash with Rain stirred an image of a bridge, leading him to explore the bridges in this world.
The quest objectives update in this order:
- “Visit the bridges in each region (0/4)”
- “Head for the Kolobos Bridge”
- “Battle Gilgamesh on the Kolobos Bridge”
Waterfall Way contains one of the four bridges. After you have seen all four, Gilgamesh recalls a very big bridge, and Rain brings him to Kolobos Bridge for the final battle. You can refuse the fight for now and return when ready, just as you could aboard the airship.
| Stat | Kolobos Bridge Gilgamesh |
|---|---|
| Level | Lv 45 |
| HP | 180,000 |
| At half HP | Casts Haste, Protect and Shell on himself |
| Can steal | Mist Turbo Ether, Elixir |
| Reward | 22,000 EXP, 20,000 Gil, Genji Armor |
At half HP, his buffs make the fight’s second phase harder than its opening stretch. Defeat him to earn the Genji Armor. Once the battle ends, Gilgamesh goes back to his own world.
Genji Armor
The Genji Armor is heavy armor, and it is built to go with the Genji Gloves from the airship fight.
| Item | Stats | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Genji Armor | Phys Def 259, Mag Def 153, Speed -30; sells for 250 Gil | “Increases stagger power and damage dealt by 15% upon dealing a critical hit.” |
| Genji Gloves | Accessory | “Increases critical hit rate by 50%.” |
The gloves improve your odds of landing critical hits, while the armor increases stagger strength and damage whenever one connects, making them an effective pair. The drawback is a Speed penalty. Find the armor with the rest of the game’s gear in the armor list, and the gloves in the accessories list.

None of Gilgamesh’s encounters are among the game’s missables, and all three of his fights also appear in the bosses list.
