Michael Myers is playable from the moment you start, but the survivors you get to control in Halloween: The Game are split across three unlock paths. Five civilians are ready at launch, five more open up as your account level climbs, and three are tied to a paid edition with no other way in.
Quick answer: Eric Dunn, Rachel Calahan, Marcus Navarro, and Tanya Harrison are free from the start alongside killer Michael Myers. Jennifer Aarons, Thomas Armitage, Lynda Van Der Klok, Bob Simms, and Annie Bracket unlock at account levels 5, 10, 25, 40, and 55. Laurie Strode, Richard Hawthorne, and Alexis Purcell require the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Every character and unlock requirement
Michael Myers is the sole killer and is available immediately. Everyone else on the list is a civilian survivor. Once a level threshold is met, the character stays unlocked permanently and can be picked in any later match.

The four starting civilians cover different jobs against Michael, so you can lean into escape, counter-play, solo survival, or team support without unlocking anything first.
| Survivor | Strengths |
|---|---|
| Eric Dunn | Escape and item specialist. Highlights nearby escapes, reloads ranged weapons and flashlights 10% faster, and extends firecracker disorientation by 50%. |
| Rachel Calahan | Michael counter. Deals more Bloodthirst damage, has a larger Shape Jump prevention radius, and can hear Michael in Shape Jump from up to two minutes away. |
| Marcus Navarro | Resourceful solo survivor. Has a 20% chance to conserve repair packs, can pick locked doors, and gets a major buff as the last civilian alive. |
| Tanya Harrison | Support specialist. Tracks Michael near noise makers, reveals nearby phone status, and reduces follower damage by 10%. |

Survivors you unlock by leveling up
Five civilians are gated behind account level alone. There is no challenge, quest, or currency requirement attached to them. Play matches, earn account experience, and each one appears the moment you cross its level. Level 55 is currently the highest threshold, which makes Annie Bracket the last progression unlock.
Jennifer Aarons is the first of these, unlocking at Level 5. She works as a stealth and melee survivor, making residents harder to stalk, degrading Michael’s Stalk faster, and gaining melee damage while Terrified. The remaining four (Thomas Armitage, Lynda Van Der Klok, Bob Simms, and Annie Bracket) arrive at Levels 10, 25, 40, and 55 respectively.
Digital Deluxe Edition survivors
Three civilians cannot be earned through play. Laurie Strode, Richard Hawthorne, and Alexis Purcell are locked to the Digital Deluxe Edition, and there is no separate purchase or upgrade path to obtain them if you own the standard version. Laurie Strode is granted early rather than through normal account progression.
| Survivor | Strengths |
|---|---|
| Laurie Strode | Escape and team-combat specialist. Highlights nearby escapes while Calm and keeps Michael down 10% longer after helping knock him down. |
| Richard Hawthorne | High-risk melee specialist. Gains 40% melee damage while high and intoxicated, sees distant characters while high, and suffers 5% less Stalk progress. |
| Alexis Purcell | Follower support specialist. Makes followers dramatically tougher, reduces their Fear, gains movement speed after helping residents escape, and gets easier dispatch skill checks. |

How to confirm a character unlocked
A level-locked survivor appears as a selectable option in the Civilian roster on the lobby screen once you reach the required account level, replacing the locked marker that was on the slot before. You do not need to redeem or claim anything. If a character still shows as locked, it means the account level requirement has not been met yet, or the survivor is one of the three Digital Deluxe exclusives that the standard edition cannot access.
That covers the whole current roster. Between the five free picks, the five level unlocks up to Level 55, and the three Digital Deluxe survivors, you can plan exactly which civilians to chase and which are tied to the edition you own.
