Halloween: The Game Prologue Challenge 6 Guide (Every Orderly)

How to clear or scare off every orderly at Smith's Grove before the gate opens, and make the progress stick.

How to clear or scare off every orderly at Smith’s Grove before the gate opens, and make the progress stick.

The sixth optional challenge in the Smith’s Grove Prologue of Halloween: The Game asks for a full sweep of the sanitarium grounds. Michael starts sedated and slow after the Thorazine injection, the rain kills visibility, and the normal escape route deliberately skips most of the staff. That is the problem — the story path lets you leave long before the grounds are empty.

Quick answer: Kill or terrify every orderly on the grounds before you pry open the gate — executions and orderlies who successfully flee both count — then finish the chapter and reach the station wagon, or the challenge progress will not save.

Kills and escapes both count toward the orderly total

The challenge is worded as “kill or drive away every Orderly before you escape,” and that second half matters more than most players assume. An orderly who breaks free of a grab and runs far enough to trigger the “ORDERLY ESCAPED” notification is removed from the active group. He no longer needs to die.

That gives you two clean ways to clear a target. Grab an orderly and use the execution prompt, or let the grab break in his favour and give him room to run instead of chasing him down. Bodies left where another orderly can find them also cause panic, which is how groups scatter on their own once the first execution lands in the open.

Note: the escape credit takes a moment to register, because the orderly has to physically get far enough away. Do not follow him and do not assume the count failed if nothing pops immediately.

How many orderlies you need to account for

Depending on how the grounds populate, the sweep runs to roughly ten to twelve orderlies spread across the yard, the roads, the woods on the right, the elevated path, the power-box area and the slope up toward the institute. Extra staff can also appear back near the opening area after you have already moved past it.

Rather than counting toward a fixed number, treat the challenge banner as the finish line. Keep a running total that includes anyone who fled, sweep the map in a loop, and stop the moment the challenge registers. The grounds are small, so a return pass costs less time than second-guessing yourself at the gate.

Full sweep route through Smith’s Grove

After the opening cutscene, follow the other patients along the wet path toward the stairs. Two orderlies work this opening stretch, and they are far easier to take once their patrol separates them rather than while they are standing together.

Take the first orderly standing out on the road. Approach from behind until the stalk meter fills, grab him, then use the bare-hand execution. Doing this in view of others is fine — the panic it causes pushes nearby staff into flee behaviour you can bank later.

Hold position by the stone wall and let the next orderly walk into you instead of following him around the yard. The same trick works along the chain-link fence line, where a patrolling orderly can be pinned against the fence for a grab.
Move down past the parked vehicles and onto the elevated pathway. Grab the orderly next to the railing and use the environmental prompt to throw him over the edge rather than executing him normally.
Cut into the woods on the right. At least one orderly runs through the trees here, and he is easy to lose if you commit to a straight chase — let the treeline funnel him instead, then close the distance.

Return to the main road and work toward the power boxes. Keep one orderly alive as you arrive — the telephone pole context execution sits beside this area, and it is useless if there is nobody nearby to carry into it.

Turn off the power box to drop the lights, then take whoever is left in the dark around that area and the nearby brush. Darkness makes the remaining grabs considerably safer.
Climb the hill toward the institute and clear the orderlies posted up there, including anyone standing around the car park. This section is easy to skip because the objective marker points the other way.

Check back toward the starting area before you leave. A late orderly can be standing on the far side of a gate that Michael cannot climb through, so take the left route downhill and loop around to reach him from the open side.
Once the challenge banner appears, stop hunting. Return to the gate, pry it open, and walk the dark road down to the station wagon to close out the chapter.

Challenges you can clear on the same run

A full sweep naturally puts you next to almost every other Prologue objective, so there is no reason to run them separately. The one exception is the no-alert challenge, which requires the opposite of everything above and belongs on its own attempt.

ChallengeWhere it fits in the sweep
Terrify an orderly and cause him to fleeAny grab you deliberately let break; the escaped orderly still counts toward Challenge 6
Grab and execute 3 orderlies with bare handsThe early yard and road kills, before you reach the environmental spots
Execute an orderly with the Telephone PoleThe pole beside the power box area — bring a live orderly with you
Throw an orderly to his deathThe railing on the elevated pathway, or the ledge near the power box side
Complete the chapter without alerting any orderliesNot compatible — run this on a separate, clean attempt

Tip: do the three bare-hand executions first. If you spend every convenient target on plain kills later, you will end up walking the grounds looking for someone to drag into the pole or over the railing.

How to confirm Challenge 6 registered

Completion shows on screen as a challenge complete banner during the run, in the same format as “CHALLENGE 3 COMPLETE” and “CHALLENGE 4 COMPLETE.” The final confirmation appears on the Escape From Smith’s Grove results screen after you reach the wagon, alongside your score and killer rating.

The banner alone is not enough. Progress only saves when the chapter finishes, so leaving to the menu or restarting after the banner throws the work away.

Why the challenge does not complete

  • You pried the gate open and left while orderlies were still active on the grounds.
  • You restarted the chapter after the banner appeared instead of finishing the escape.
  • An orderly you let go was chased down or blocked before he could get far enough away to count as escaped.
  • You never went back toward the opening area, where the last stragglers can sit behind a gate Michael cannot pass through.

Restarting is only worth it while the challenge you are attempting is still recoverable. If the sweep went badly but the telephone pole and railing kills already registered, finish the chapter anyway and bank them — those objectives are saved the moment Michael reaches the wagon, and the grounds can be swept again on a replay.
