Every Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance starts out holding back part of its kit. To unlock the rest you awaken it with Magicite. That system, Vision Enhancement, opens in Grandport Harbor right after the Siren fight at the end of Chapter 1 (“Tailing the Truth”), when the Moogle of Light finally catches up with the party.
Quick answer: Beat Siren, walk into Grandport Harbor, and let the Moogle of Light find you by the canal. Talk to it, pick a Vision and spend one Magicite Shard for its first star.
Head back to Grandport Harbor. Siren’s Tower is a dungeon, so walk out through its door first. Once you are outside, fast travel works from the World Map.
Enter from the east entrance and walk west along the canal. Near the shop with the bag sign and a pink-roofed stall, a voice shouts “KUPOOOOOO!!! Finally found you, kupo!” and the Moogle of Light shows up. The scene plays out without any input from you.

Follow the conversation. The Moogle can’t join battles (“so no fighting for me, unfortunately, kupo”), but it offers another kind of help: “I can help by enhancing your visions, kupo. Bring me magicites if you want me to work my magic, kupo.”
Rain asks the Moogle of Light whether it will fight alongside the party.
Keep listening as the Moogle explains what Magicite does: “Magicites contain magic from the Farplane, so they’re able to enhance the power of visions, kupo.” It adds that you can find them “scattered all over this world”.
The Moogle of Light explains how magicite powers up Visions.
Read the first tutorial, “Awakening Visions”. It says: “When you first obtain a vision, you will not be able to draw out their full strength. By harnessing the magic power held within magicite, you can awaken visions and unlock newfound skills.”
Page one of the tutorial covers awakening Visions.
Move to the second page, “Magicite”. It reads: “Magicite comes in three sizes: Magicite Shards, Magicites, and Magicite Crysts. Larger pieces of magicite are required to draw out stronger powers.” The same page says you gather it “from treasure chests, by defeating unique enemies, or by completing quests”.
Page two lists the three sizes of Magicite and where it comes from.
Look over the Vision Enhancement screen. It lists your Visions, shows the Magicite each one needs for its next star, and displays the Magicite you are holding along the top.

Once this screen appears, Vision Enhancement is unlocked. The Moogle of Light stays in Grandport Harbor afterward, so you can return whenever you have more Magicite to spend.
Pick a Vision on the Vision Enhancement screen. Its Awakening Level panel shows the skills and passives it has now. Below them are the locked skills that the next star unlocks.

Confirm. The shard is used up and a star fills in on the Vision. The skills that star unlocks are tagged New in the list, which tells you the awakening worked.

Each star after that costs a bigger piece of Magicite. Tronn’s two-star group asks for a Magicite, not a shard.
Tronn’s next awakening tier, which needs a Magicite.
If you try to awaken him while holding only shards, the game stops you with “More Magicites required.”
Your starting party already uses Tronn and Leah, so either one is a good place to spend your first shards. Tronn’s first star brings the -ra spells, including Thundara for enemies weak to Thunder. Leah’s adds Cura, Esuna and Nullify Poison. The Warrior of Light can take a shard as well. Whichever Vision you awaken, it still has to be slotted in, so check how to equip Visions if it isn’t in your lineup.

Awakening vs Mastery Rank
Awakening Level and Mastery Rank are two separate systems. Awakening Level is counted in stars and paid for with Magicite. Mastery Rank (MR) goes up with MRP earned in battle. Raising one does nothing to the other.
The Visions list covers every Vision’s full set of awakening tiers. For the longer climb past the first star, see the walkthrough on raising Awakening Level.
