The Dino Kid update adds care mechanics, log-collecting camp jobs, a trinket hunt, and a hidden challenge for experienced players.

The Dino Kid update adds care mechanics, log-collecting camp jobs, a trinket hunt, and a hidden challenge for experienced players.

The Dino Kid update turns one of the rescued children in 99 Nights in the Forest into a helper you can raise. Once you bring Dino Kid back to camp, you feed him, track down his missing belongings, and level him up so he starts pulling his weight around your base. It went live on July 11, 2026, with an event window running through July 25 at 9:00 AM.

Quick answer: Find the Red Key, use it to unlock the cave and rescue Dino Kid, then carry him back to camp. Feed him food and return his lost trinkets to level him up, and he will start collecting logs for you.

Dino Kid update patch notes

The official notes frame this as a Dino Kid focused week. You look after him, help him grow, and he repays you with labor around the campsite. He has also scattered a few of his favorite things across the forest, which ties into the collectible hunt.

How to rescue and care for Dino Kid

Get the Red Key. This is the item that opens the locked cave where Dino Kid is held. Without it, you cannot start the care loop.
Use the Red Key to unlock the cave and rescue Dino Kid. Once he is freed, carry him back to your campsite so he can settle in.
Befriend him at base and begin feeding him food items. Feeding is the core of raising his level, so keep a steady supply of food coming in.
Collect his belongings spread across the map and return them. As he levels up from food and recovered trinkets, he grows more useful and starts gathering wood logs for your camp.

How Dino Kid leveling works

Two actions drive his progression. Feeding him different food items raises his level, and finding the belongings he lost across the forest pushes it further. The higher his level, the more he helps around camp, with log collection being the first job he takes on.

The trinket hunt and the care loop feed into each other. You gather his items to level him, and a leveled Dino Kid frees you from manual wood gathering so you can focus on surviving the night.

Secret challenge for expert players

Beyond the standard care and trinket steps, there is a hidden challenge built for experienced players. The intended path is to take care of Dino Kid, recover his things, and follow the trail those belongings point toward. The extra rewards sit at the end of that route for players who complete it.

99 Nights in the Forest still centers on building your camp, finding four kids, and lasting 99 nights while escaping The Deer. The Dino Kid update layers a raising-and-helper system on top of that, so rescuing him early and keeping him fed pays off with less manual work later in a run.
