How to Get Isbrand’s Greaves Legendary Trousers Early in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Isbrand’s Greaves are the easiest Legendary piece to pick up in The Blood of Dawnwalker. They sit in a chest at the Kobold Nest in the mountains southwest of Rockfalls, and nothing in the game gates them behind a quest, a boss, or a story flag. You can be wearing them within your first hour of free roam.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Gravel Lea shrine near Rockfalls, head south into the mountain pass, crouch and hug the left rock wall past the ghouls, and loot the chest tucked into the rocks at the end of the path.

Isbrand’s Greaves chest location near Rockfalls

The chest is in the mountainous stretch southwest of Rockfalls and west of Svartrau City, in the area marked as the Kobold Nest. The Gravel Lea shrine is the closest fast travel point, so spawn there and climb the snowy hillside heading south until the terrain narrows into a rocky pass.

A group of ghoul-type enemies patrols the ledge in front of the chest. They are the only thing standing between you and the trousers, and they can be skipped entirely.

Note: Reaching and looting the chest costs one day segment on the 30-day clock, whether you fight or sneak. That is unavoidable, but it is the cheapest Legendary item in the game by that measure.

Stealth route: Get the greaves without fighting

Travel to the mountain pass southwest of Rockfalls before you enter the enemy area. Stop while you are still outside their detection range, on the approach up the hillside.
Make a manual save. If the sneak goes wrong you get jumped by a whole pack at a low level, and reloading is far quicker than fighting your way out.

Crouch and move along the left rock wall. Stay pressed against it the entire way in — the wall keeps you outside the patrol paths, and the enemies stay passive as long as you do not cut across the open ledge.
Loot the nest sitting on the left side of the path if you want the extra pickup. It holds Artisan’s Poleyns along with some crafting materials, and it is directly on your route, so it costs you nothing.

Keep following the left wall to the end of the pass. The chest is tucked into the rocks on that side, slightly out of view until you are almost on top of it.
Open the chest and take everything. Isbrand’s Greaves are always inside, alongside a handful of other items.
Turn around and sprint back the way you came. You do not need to clear the area or wait for the enemies to reset — once you are out of the pass, the run is done.

Clearing the enemies instead

If you would rather take the fight, the guards here are ordinary enemies rather than a boss encounter, and a decent early sword handles them. Durandal, found near the Coward’s Path shrine, is more than enough. Killing them also lets you loot the ledge at your own pace instead of hugging a wall.

The chest is on the right-hand side of the combat area once the ledge is clear. Either approach ends with the same item, so the choice comes down to your level and how much healing you want to spend.

What else is in the chest

The greaves are the fixed reward, but the rest of the contents vary between playthroughs. Pickups seen from this chest include a Narrow Cleaver, Minor Powder of Sharp Mind, Golden Earrings, a Witchcraft Mastery Manual, Quilted Grey Leggings, Aconite, Raw Fish, and an Amalgam Manual. The manuals are worth reading before you sell anything.

Isbrand’s Greaves stats and the medium armour penalty

These are Legendary medium trousers built around claw damage, which makes them a natural fit for a vampire-form build. Blacksmiths and armorers can upgrade them, so the numbers you see depend on how far you have taken the piece — an upgraded Level 10 version reads 96 Armour.

PropertyValue
TypeLegs (Medium Trousers)
RarityLegendary
Armour Power (base)66
Weight3.7
Value1203
Claws Damage+6%
Claws Critical Hit Damage+6%
Damage Against Untouched+6%
Vampire Skill Cooldown-4%

There is one catch worth knowing before you equip them. If Coen is not proficient with medium armour, the item card flags it and every stat on the piece is lowered by 30 percent. Some bonuses drop to zero outright in that state, including Activation Charge restoration from blocks and perfect blocks, and Witchcraft ability damage. The greaves still beat most early armour even with the penalty, but the full value only arrives once you have the medium armour proficiency.

Confirming you got them

Open your inventory and check the trousers slot. Isbrand’s Greaves appear with a Legendary rarity tag, the Medium Trousers type, and the flavour line about steel so black it seems to pull in the surrounding light. If that entry is there, the run worked.

If the chest is empty or missing, you are at the wrong rock formation. The chest sits at the far end of the pass on the left wall, not near the nest partway along it, and the nest is a separate container that only holds Artisan’s Poleyns and materials.

Grab these first if you are planning an early Legendary route. Nothing else at this stage gives you a Legendary slot for so little time and risk, and it frees up the rest of your day budget for Durandal and Ambrus’s Cuirass later on.
