Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Get the Hand of Fate and Ancient Hero’s Armour

Father Florin's two quests in Svartrau City hide the Stone Key, a boss fight, and three pieces of top-tier gear.

Father Florin’s two quests in Svartrau City hide the Stone Key, a boss fight, and three pieces of top-tier gear.

Three of the strongest pieces of gear in The Blood of Dawnwalker sit behind one priest and one very specific key. The Ancient Hero’s Armour, the Ancient Hero’s Ring, and the sword called The Hand of Fate all come out of the ancient ruins beneath Svartrau City, and you can only reach them by working through Father Florin’s quest pair, “In the Name of the Father” and “A Hero’s End.”

Quick answer: Grab the Treasury Key inside the cathedral, use it to loot the Stone Key from the Treasury’s hidden room, then take Father Florin’s invitation to the safehouse near the Western Gate. Down in the ruins, the Stone Key opens the large stone chest holding the Ancient Hero’s Ring and The Hand of Fate, and the Ancient Hero’s Armour is in a golden chest past the Fallen Witch.

What you need before starting the Father Florin quests

Two conditions decide whether this run goes smoothly. Svartrau Cathedral is shut at night, so the entire opening stretch has to happen during daylight hours. The underground section is the opposite problem, since the ruins expect vampire mobility, and you will want Shadow Step to cross gaps and reach the areas where the chests sit.

Keep at least 25 denari on hand if you would rather skip the confession sequence, and bring a torch. The safehouse basement and the ruins beyond it are dark enough that fighting kobolds without a light source is miserable.

Pick up the Stone Key before you head underground. There is no way to open the ruins chest without it, and going back up for it means retracing the whole descent.

Start “In the Name of the Father” in Svartrau Cathedral

There are two entirely separate ways into this quest, and both end with you holding the Treasury Key. Pick whichever fits your playstyle.

Route 1: Take confession with Father Florin

Enter Svartrau Cathedral during the day and walk up to Father Florin, who will be in the middle of a baptism. Wait for him to finish, then start the conversation and confirm who you are.
Agree to take confession. Florin will lead you through the ritual, and the dialogue only pays off if you follow it through to the end.

Confess all three sins when prompted, which are Wrath, Envy, and Gluttony. Admitting to every one is what unlocks the quest and gets Florin to send you to a building near the Western Gate marked with St. Tobias’s hand.

Route 2: Bribe the acolyte for 25 denari

Find the acolyte kid standing near the bell tower inside the cathedral and pay him 25 denari. That buys you access to the storage room without any confession dialogue.
Inside the storage room, inspect the ledger. The Treasury Key is tucked in with it, and picking it up puts you on the same path as the confession route.

Get the Stone Key from the Treasury

Leave the cathedral and head to the Treasury building just outside it. The Treasury Key unlocks the door.

Clear out the shelves and containers on the way through. The Phial of Xanthe’s Blood is in here, along with The Lost Saint’s Relic, a Darkbone Amulet, and a couple of balm recipes.
Push the bookshelf that can be moved. It swings open onto a hidden room holding the Golden Chalice and, more importantly, the Stone Key. That key is the only thing that opens the chest with the ring and the sword, so confirm it is in your inventory before moving on.

Reach Father Florin’s congregation under the Western Gate

Travel to the building Florin pointed you toward near the Western Gate, the one bearing St. Tobias’s hand. A brute is posted outside and will wave you in once you speak to him.
Quest tracker reads "Visit the building Father Florin invited you to" as the brute points Coen toward the ladder.

Equip a torch and read the note to the faithful on the ground floor. The upper floors are worth a quick sweep for an unsent letter and other loot before you go any deeper.
Drop into the basement and follow the ruins until a beggar approaches. He acts as a guide and walks you to Florin’s secret congregation.
Step into the chamber and speak with Florin. This closes out “In the Name of the Father” and immediately starts “A Hero’s End.”

Open the stone chest for the Ancient Hero’s Ring and The Hand of Fate

Before you leave the congregation area, loot the barrel near the red-robed priest. The Ancient Key is inside, and without it the way deeper stays shut.
Use the Ancient Key on the locked door and pick up the bloodied note behind it. The note carries a partial map of the ruins, which helps once the corridors start branching.
Push through the kobolds and the ruin’s other defenders, including the Ancient Guardian, until you find the large stone chest in the kobold-filled room. Use the Stone Key on it to pull out the Ancient Hero’s Ring and The Hand of Fate.

Beat the Fallen Witch to reach the Ancient Hero’s Armour

Find the hole in the floor and drop down. A skeleton at the bottom is carrying the Old Key. Grab it and climb back up.
Take the Old Key to the locked door it matches. Opening it puts you in the Fallen Witch’s chamber, and the fight starts as soon as you are inside.

Kill the Fallen Witch and loot her body before moving on. Her chamber is a dead end for the main prize, so head back out and take the remaining paths.
Clear the last stretch of enemies and open the golden chest at the end of it. The Ancient Hero’s Armour is inside.
Return to Father Florin and tell him how it went. That closes “A Hero’s End.”

How to confirm it worked, and why it sometimes doesn’t

You get two clear confirmations. “In the Name of the Father” closes the moment you walk into Florin’s underground chamber and speak to him, with “A Hero’s End” appearing in its place. The second quest closes when you go back to Florin after opening the golden chest, and all three items will be sitting in your inventory by then.

The usual reasons people stall out are short and specific.

  • Arriving at the cathedral at night, when it is locked.
  • Confessing only one or two sins instead of Wrath, Envy, and Gluttony.
  • Skipping the pushable bookshelf in the Treasury and going underground without the Stone Key.
  • Missing the barrel near the priest, which leaves you without the Ancient Key to open the ruins door.

Work through it in that order and the whole chain runs in a single trip, from a daytime confession in the cathedral to Rigoa’s ruins and back. The Hand of Fate and the Ancient Hero’s Armour both hold up well into the late game once you have them upgraded.
