Quick Info
- You can bring back the old YouTube layout with the comments below the video and suggested videos on the right by installing a userscript, adding a filter to the uBlock Origin extension, clearing browser cookies, or changing the PREF value in the browser console.
- Most of these methods should work on all popular browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
- Since Google products are constantly undergoing changes, the solutions mentioned here may stop working with updates to YouTube.
Method 1: Use the TamperMonkey Userscript extension
Userscripts like TamperMonkey run within script extensions and let you perform actions like changing the layout of the YouTube webpage.
- Visit the TamperMonkey website and scroll down until you see your browser.
- Click on the 'Get from Store' button for your browser.
- On the Extensions page, click on the 'Add to Chrome' button and install the extension.
- Now, click on the Extension button in your browser and click on the TamperMonkey extension.
- In the options that appear, click on the 'Find New Scripts' option.
- On the page that opens, search for the 'Restore Old YouTube' script. Scroll down and click on the 'Install' button when the script appears.
- Click on the 'Install' button again on the next page.
- Once the script is installed, click on the TamperMonkey extension again and then on 'Dashboard'.
- Check that the script you installed is enabled.
- Finally, visit the YouTube page and check whether the old layout with the suggested videos on the right and the comments below the video is back.
Note: You can also install other scripts to change the layout of the YouTube page from the GreasyFork website. For instance, you can find a script that brings back the Dislikes and removes the rounded design in the same manner.
Method 2: Add a filter to uBlock Origin
Another method to restore the old YouTube layout is to add a filter to uBlock Origin.
- Install the uBlock Origin extension in your browser from this page.
- Once the extension is installed, click on the Extension button and then on uBlock Origin.
- When the extension settings appear, click on the gear icon to open the dashboard.
- When the dashboard opens, click on the 'My Filters' tab at the top and then paste the following code in the available box:

- Finally, click on the 'Apply Changes' button and your YouTube page should have its old layout back again.
Method 3: Change the PREF value
To change YouTube back from the new 2024 layout where the comments appear on the right to the older layout, you will need to change the PREF value in your browser.
In Chrome
- Launch the Chrome browser and go to the YouTube page.
- On the YouTube page, use the shortcut
Ctrl + Shift + I
and a pop-up will appear on the right side of the screen.
- Click on the two arrows pointing right to view additional options and then click on 'Application' in the drop-down menu.
- In the list that appears, look for 'Cookies' and click on it to expand it.
- A list of websites will appear. Click on YouTube in the list and then on the 'PREF' option on the right.
- Double-click on the 'PREF' value to change it and put the new value
f6=8
. Then press 'Enter' to save the changes. Open a new YouTube page and you will see that it will now use the old layout.
In Firefox
- Go to the YouTube page in Firefox and use the shortcut
Ctrl + Shift + I
.
- At the top of the panel that appears in the lower half of the screen, click on 'Storage'.
- Click on the 'Cookies' option on the left to expand it and then click on YouTube.
- Again, look for the 'PREF' option and change its value to
f6=8
by double-clicking on it. Close this page and open a new YouTube page to check the layout.
Note: Changing the PREF value in Chrome or Firefox can reset your language preferences to the default values. You will have to set them again from the browser settings.
Method 4: Clear Browser Cookies
You can also try clearing cookies for your browser, which can help you get the old YouTube layout back. Here's how you can do so on Chrome.
- Open Chrome settings by clicking on the three dots at the top right and then on 'Settings' in the drop-down menu.
- On the Settings page, click on 'Privacy and Security' on the left.
- Click on the 'Delete browsing data' option.
- Make sure Cookies, Site data, and cache data are all selected before clicking on the 'Delete data' button. You can choose the period for which the data will be deleted.
- If you're signed into Chrome, this will log you out. You can sign back in if you want and the YouTube page should have reverted to its old layout.
Note: You can clear cookies in Firefox or other browsers using the same steps as above and it should provide the same results.
Things to know
- While you can revert the old YouTube layout using the above methods, they may stop working in the future as Google is pushing the new layout on all devices.
- Methods like clearing cookies and adding filters to the uBlock Origin extension should also work on other browsers like Edge.
- Google often reverts changes if users do not find them useful, so providing feedback regarding the new layout may be beneficial.
