Legendary is the hardest world difficulty in Terraria, and it is the one setting you cannot pick from the world creation menu. It only exists as a combination of a Master Mode world and one of the game’s secret seeds, which is why plenty of players go looking for a “Legendary” button that was never there.
Quick answer: Create a new world, set the world difficulty to Master, and enter for the worthy (or get fixed boi) in the seed field before generating. The world will display its difficulty as “Legendary” in lime-green text in the world selection menu.
Requirements for a Legendary world
Two conditions have to be true at the same time, and both are locked in at world generation. The world mode must be Master, and the world seed must be one of the secret seeds that flags Legendary difficulty. Miss either one and you get a normal Master world or a lower-difficulty secret seed world instead.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| World mode | Master (Journey, Classic, and Expert will not qualify) |
| Seed | for the worthy or get fixed boi (the “everything” seed) |
| Character mode | Any (Classic, Mediumcore, or Hardcore all work) |
| Platform | PC, Console, Mobile, and tModLoader; added in 1.4.4 |
| Changeable later? | No, world difficulty and seed are fixed once generation starts |

for the worthy exactly as written, with spaces and no extra characters. If you want the combined secret seed instead, use get fixed boi.Confirm the world is Legendary
Go back to the world selection screen and look at the difficulty label under your new world. A Legendary world reads “Legendary” in lime-green text, which is a distinct color from the ones used for Journey, Classic, Expert, and Master. That label has been the confirmation since desktop 1.4.4.6, when for the worthy and get fixed boi worlds in Master Mode started reporting themselves as Legendary.
Note: Legendary is the only difficulty without a description line, because descriptions are shown in the world creation menu and Legendary never appears there.
Stat changes in Legendary Mode
Legendary stacks everything from Expert and Master on top of the for the worthy seed’s own changes. The clearest jumps over Master are enemy health, which goes from 3× to 4×, and lightning damage, which rises from 240 to 400. Enemy defense does not scale directly with difficulty, but enemy stats and drop rates can still increase once you reach Hardmode and post-Plantera.
| Stat | Legendary value |
|---|---|
| Enemy health | 4× |
| Enemy contact damage | 5.33× |
| Enemy projectile damage | 3× |
| Enemy coin drops | 3.5× |
| Enemy knockback taken | 0.8× |
| Debuff duration | 2.5× |
| Town NPC damage | 2× |
| Boulder damage | 420 |
| Lightning damage | 400 |
| Coins dropped by Classic characters | 100% |
| Player defense effectiveness | 100% |
| Accessory slots | 6 by default, 7 maximum |
What Legendary does not give you
There are no Legendary-exclusive items, drops, or mechanics. Everything you can earn in one of these worlds comes from Master Mode and the secret seed, including Treasure Bags, the extra Master Mode boss drops, and the additional accessory slot. The difficulty label itself is the only thing unique to Legendary.
That distinction matters if you are choosing a long-term world. The for the worthy seed changes world generation and enemy behavior in ways that make building projects harder to protect, so a Legendary world is better suited to a challenge run than to a base you plan to decorate.
Why the world is not showing as Legendary
- The world was generated on Expert, Classic, or Journey. Only Master worlds report Legendary, and the setting cannot be changed after generation.
- The seed text does not match. A misspelling or a stray character produces an ordinary random world instead of the secret seed.
- You are checking the character difficulty rather than the world. Classic, Mediumcore, and Hardcore are character settings and have their own colors; the Legendary label sits on the world entry.
- The game version predates 1.4.4.6 on desktop, before Master Mode secret seed worlds began displaying the Legendary name.
Terraria 1.4.5.8 is the most recent hotfix in the Bigger and Boulder line, with a heavy focus on balance changes to existing items along with a handful of new ones. It is available on PC, console, and mobile, while the Switch build has not been given a confirmed release date. None of those changes alter how Legendary is created, so the Master plus secret seed combination remains the only route in.
