Deathstrike is the wall that a lot of players hit in Marvel’s Wolverine. She moves faster than anything Logan has faced up to that point, she throws projectiles that can delete a health bar in seconds, and half of her moveset cannot be blocked at all. The fight is winnable on your first try, but only if you stop trading blows and start reading her.
Quick answer: Parry every attack that does not flash red to fill Deathstrike’s stagger meter, then unload with Helix Claws and Special Techniques while she is staggered. Dodge the red power attacks instead.
Where the Deathstrike fight starts in Marvel’s Wolverine
The encounter begins outside a stone gate, where Deathstrike steps out to meet Logan and Jean Grey, extends her claws, and calls in a wave of Hand ninjas. That opening skirmish is not the boss fight. It is the lead-in.

The real battle takes place at Mount Haku, in a lava-filled cavern, under the objective banner Death’s Match. Once the boss health bar labelled DEATHSTRIKE appears at the top of the screen, there is no backing out. The arena also shifts mid-fight, including a brief stormy cliffside illusion, but the rules never change with the scenery.

Add to Google Preferences →How to damage Deathstrike: Parry, stagger, then punish
Deathstrike has too much health to grind down with free hits. The fight is built around her stagger meter. Every successful parry fills it, and once it breaks she is wide open for a long punish window. Miss the parries and she simply out-speeds you.
Three colors tell you everything you need to do:
- Normal attacks and purple sword projectiles can be parried to build stagger.
- Yellow attacks and yellow projectiles can be parried to send heavy damage straight back at her.
- Anything that flashes red is a power attack and cannot be parried at all. Dodge it.
The game prompts you for this directly during the fight with the instruction to tap L1 to parry Deathstrike’s sword projectiles. Treat that as the core rhythm for the whole encounter, not a one-off tutorial.

Best abilities to use against Deathstrike
Helix Claws is the standout pick here. It does heavy damage and also chunks her stagger meter, so it doubles as both your punish and your setup. Use it every time it is available rather than saving it.
Special Techniques also land unusually well on Deathstrike, so spend them the moment they charge instead of holding them for a later phase. Rage mode, with its glowing blue skeleton overlay, is worth burning during a stagger window when she cannot interrupt you.

The environment helps too, within limits. Knee Breaker and Overwhelm can slam her into the cavern walls for extra stagger. What does not work is the obvious idea of kicking her into the lava, so do not waste attempts trying to set that up.
Phase 1: Countering Deathstrike’s sword attacks
In the opening phase Deathstrike fights with a glowing sword, and her projectiles are the main threat. Parrying the purple ones keeps you alive, while parrying a yellow one bounces it back for a large chunk of damage. Those returns are the fastest way through her first health bar.
| Attack | Tell | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Sword slice | Dashes in, multiple swings | Parry each hit |
| Sword projectiles | Backs off, swings sword | Parry; yellow returns damage |
| Jump and slice | Leaps, flashes red | Dodge sideways, no parry |
| Jump and mini-projectiles | Quick air swing, red ground markers | Move off the red marks |
The jump and slice is a power attack. Trying to parry it will eat the full hit, so commit to dodging the instant she flashes red in the air.
Phase 2: Countering Deathstrike’s claws
After the sword is gone, Deathstrike drops to a smaller stone platform surrounded by lava and switches to her cybernetic claws. She is noticeably faster in melee, but the plan is identical. Parry the safe attacks, dodge the red ones, and cash in every stagger.
| Attack | Tell | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Jump and slice | Somersaults in, arms out | Dodge, then punish the landing |
| Kick | Follows the somersault | Parry to interrupt her flow |
| Jump and slice (power) | Curls up, flashes red | Keep moving and dodge |
| Red lightning | One arm out, red burst on landing | Dodge clear of the impact |
| Speed dash | Rapid side-to-side dashes | Dodge as she launches |
| Mixed melee | Punches, swipes, kicks | Parry unless it flashes red |
Yellow melee attacks still appear in this phase. Parrying them returns extra damage, so keep watching colors rather than just spamming the parry button on instinct.
How to confirm the Deathstrike fight is over
Emptying the health bar triggers a cutscene rather than a fade to black. Deathstrike stabs Logan one last time, he cuts off both of her cybernetic arms, and she is sealed inside her own metal sarcophagus, electrocuted, and reduced to ash. Logan then shoves the sarcophagus into the lava as the cavern starts to come apart.

Two trophy notifications confirm the win. Parry Perfected pops for your parry work during the fight, and Struck Dead lands as Deathstrike goes down. If you see both in the top right corner, the encounter is complete.
The story does not pause there. Mister Sinister, going by Essex, arrives with Sabretooth to pull the sarcophagus back out of the lava, Logan takes Sabretooth’s right arm off in the scuffle, and Jean Grey hurls a slab of rock at both of them with her telekinesis so the two of them can escape the collapsing cave.

If you are still losing the fight after several attempts, the fix is almost always discipline rather than damage. Stop attacking into her combos, let the parries build the stagger meter, and save Helix Claws and your charged Special Techniques for the moment her guard breaks.
