Onimusha: Way of the Sword — How to Get the Hozuki Pouch: Resistance

The Hozuki Pouch: Resistance is the healing option for players who want to keep swinging Oni Armaments between heals. Instead of a single burst of health like the default pouch, it drips health and Oni Power back into Musashi over time, which makes it the natural pick once you stop panic-healing and start planning your recoveries.

Quick answer: Complete the main mission “Patching up the Pouch,” then collect the Oni Cloth (Resistance) from the courtyard behind the Malice Barrier south of the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror and hand it to Okuni at Enma’s Hall.

What the Hozuki Pouch: Resistance does

Resistance restores a medium amount of health and refills Oni Power, both over time rather than instantly. It carries 7 charges at a medium recovery value, matching the charge count of the Regeneration pouch while trading stamina recovery for Oni Power. That makes it the middle ground between the purely defensive Regeneration pouch and the offensive Aggressor pouch, which does not heal at all.

Because the recovery is gradual, it is a poor emergency button. Use it when you have created space, not when a hit is about to land.

Requirement: Finish “Patching up the Pouch” first

You cannot craft any of the alternate pouches until Okuni offers to repair your tattered starter pouch at Enma’s Hall during mission 8, “Patching up the Pouch.” That mission teaches the crafting loop, gives you the Old Temple Key, and puts the pouch markers on your Kyoto map so the four Oni Cloth locations stop being a blind search.

Some pouch areas in Eastern Kyoto also sit behind harmful miasma. If a route is sealed off, the answer is main story progress, not a different approach.

Oni Cloth (Resistance) location: South of the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror

The material you need is the Oni Cloth (Resistance), and it sits near the docks in a courtyard that is sealed from the front. Trying to walk in from the street facing the marker wastes time, because the way in comes from the western side by the pier.

Fast travel to the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror and head south to the Pouch Marker shown on your map. Confirm the marker is visible before you set off, since it only appears after Okuni’s mission.

From the marker, move west and then north toward the pier. Ignore the sealed frontage of the target building entirely.

Find the house with a ladder on the western side of the buildings and climb onto the roof. The ladder icon is marked on your map, which is the quickest way to spot it.

Use Oni Agility to run across the stone bridge and drop into the courtyard. This is the only entrance, so if you have not unlocked the traversal ability yet, come back later.

Work through the connected houses toward the Malice Barrier. Expect to duck through a doorway on the right, exit through the left side, and take one more ladder before dropping down.

Break open the Malice Barrier at the end of the path. Clear whatever is in the way first, as the chest interaction is not available while enemies are on you.

Activate Oni Vision at the shrine beyond the barrier to reveal the hidden chest, then open it to take the Oni Cloth (Resistance). Without Oni Vision the chest simply is not there.

Pick up the Skeleton Hozuki in the same courtyard

Do not leave once you have the cloth. A Skeleton Hozuki sits in a separate chest right beside the barrier area, and it is the item you will need later to push this same pouch to Level 3. Skipping it means a second trip across the rooftops.

Look for a plain chest immediately after the doorway that leads out toward the shrine. Unlike the cloth chest, this one is visible without Oni Vision.

Craft the pouch with Okuni and confirm it worked

Return to Okuni at Enma’s Hall and hand over the Oni Cloth (Resistance). She converts the material into the finished pouch, and no additional components are needed for the base version.

You will know it worked when Hozuki Pouch: Resistance shows up in the Hozuki Pouches menu at Level 1 with 7 charges. Equip it there, then use it in the field with D-Up. If the pouch is missing from that menu, either the cloth is still sitting in your inventory unturned in, or you have not finished “Patching up the Pouch” yet.

Tip: Hozuki plants scattered around Kyoto refill your pouch between Spirit Mirrors, and the rarer Sun Dried Hozuki restores charges mid-fight. Save those for bosses.

Hozuki Pouch: Resistance upgrade materials

Okuni handles enhancement from the same menu. The Resistance pouch is the only one of the health-restoring pouches that needs Tamahagane at both upgrade tiers, so bank that material rather than spending it elsewhere.

Every Level 3 upgrade consumes one Skeleton Hozuki, and there are exactly five in the game across all five pouches. There is no spare, so none can be wasted if you want the Medical Marvel trophy and achievement, which requires all pouches at maximum level.

How long you have to collect it

Free roam stays open until the point of no return before the final mission, “The Clash at Rendaino.” Keep a manual save from just before that gate and you can return to clean up the Oni Cloth (Resistance) and any Skeleton Hozuki you missed, with all your progress intact.

If you are collecting more than just this pouch, treat each pouch marker in Eastern Kyoto as a two-item stop. Every one of the four Oni Cloth locations has a Skeleton Hozuki sitting nearby, and the fifth comes from the Hidden Treasure No. 5 Chance Encounter rather than a marker on the map.
