Merchants are the fastest way to skip grind in Palworld. Outside of crafting and looting, they hand you blueprints, consumables, ammo, and even rare Pals for gold you can farm easily. The 1.0 update reworked their inventories and bumped up spawn rates, so vendors matter more in the early game than they used to. The catch is that not every merchant is worth your time, and knowing which stalls to prioritize saves both gold and travel.

Quick answer: The Wandering Merchant (red coat), Medal Merchant, and Gourmet sit at the top because their stock covers late-game blueprints, Pal rank materials, and combat-boosting food you would otherwise grind for.

Placement here reflects how often each vendor stocks something you actually need, weighed against how reliable that stock is. Reflects the Palworld 1.0 update.

S-tier merchants and where to find them

The top vendors sell items that directly speed up progression rather than filler you can craft on your own. The Wandering Merchant in the red coat is the headline stop. After 1.0 he carries legendary blueprints, high-level Pal Spheres, and other late-game gear. You can find one at the Small Settlement near coordinates (73,-485), and like a few premium vendors he can also show up at your base.

The Medal Merchant is the one to visit when you want to push your roster further. He sells additional accessory slots along with Ripe Starfruit, which raises a Pal’s rank, plus assorted Fruits and Elixirs. One of the more accessible Medal Merchants sits at the Desolate Church around (63,-416).

The Gourmet rounds out the top tier by keeping your food supply steady. His stock includes items that raise your damage and defense, which makes a consistent supply valuable heading into tougher fights. He is a rare spawn and can wander into your base much like the Wandering Merchant.

A-tier merchants worth a detour

The Black Marketeer deals in exotic Pals, including creatures that otherwise only appear inside the Wildlife Sanctuary. His inventory is always worth a look when you pass one. The reason he lands in A-tier rather than higher is that which rare Pals appear is RNG-based, so a visit does not guarantee a prize. Black Marketeers spawn at several spots, including an Abandoned Mine near the Desolate Church at (35,-420).

The Pharmacist covers your Pals’ health and Sanity before you unlock crafted options. Eventually you can make items like the Recovery Grenade and Boost Gun, but until then this vendor keeps your team stable through longer runs.

The Material Merchant sells resources that normally drop from Pals. Buying these outright removes a lot of farming and speeds up crafting when you are short on a specific material.

B-tier merchants for situational needs

The Arena Merchant is the stop for experimenting with Skills. Located around (629,15), he carries a mix of fruits, certain Implants, a Pal reverser, and Whistle accessories that raise Pal damage. Useful, but only when you are actively tuning a build.

The Ammo/Arms Merchant matters once you start crafting weapons from blueprints and need rounds to feed them. If you have not unlocked ammo in the Technology Tree, you can farm it from chests or simply buy it here with gold, which is far easier to accumulate than the ammo itself.

How this ranking was decided

Each merchant was judged on how frequently their stock solves a real problem, how much grind they remove, and how reliably you can count on their inventory. Vendors that carry blueprints, Pal rank materials, and combat consumables rise to the top, while those with narrow or situational stock settle lower. There are a handful of other traders scattered across the map, but the ones above cover nearly everything you will need across a full playthrough.
