Path of Exile 3.29: How Allflame Crafting and Ducats Work

How Vesper’s preview crafting, Dead Man’s Sulphur, Intangibility, and Ducats let you pick the best result before committing.

Allflame Crafting is the headline system of Path of Exile 3.29, Curse of the Allflame. Instead of applying a currency and accepting one random result, you hand Vesper an item, a compatible currency, and Dead Man’s Sulphur. Vesper then splits the item into up to four ghostly outcomes and lets you keep the one you want.

Quick answer: Board The Sovereign, finish a Chart, complete a Voyage, and perform one Allflame Craft with Vesper to unlock the bench. Keep running Voyages until every recipe is unlocked, then feed Vesper an item, a supported currency, and enough Dead Man’s Sulphur to preview several outcomes and pick one.

Unlock the Allflame bench and every recipe first

The bench does not start with every option available. After boarding The Sovereign for the first time, a short tutorial walks you through your first Chart, a Voyage, and a single Allflame Craft. That gives you the basic version of the system.

To open the full set of recipes, you keep completing Voyages until every crafting option is unlocked. There is no shortcut. Missing recipes also means missing multi-choice crafting opportunities, which quietly cuts your efficiency later. Do not spend valuable currency on the bench before everything is unlocked, because each locked option is potential value left on the table.

Dead Man’s Sulphur fuels every craft

Every Allflame Craft consumes Dead Man’s Sulphur. You gather it from luminous coral growing on corrupted dead during Charts and Voyages. Charts give a small amount, while Voyages return bags of it, so it is the baseline reward of the league. Allflame Lanterns help you harvest coral in affected areas.

The cost scales with item level and the currency you are simulating. A low-level item runs roughly 1,000 to 2,000 Sulphur, while a high-value craft such as Fracturing can exceed 50,000. Sulphur is fully tradable, so you can farm it for others or buy stacks to fund expensive projects.

How Intangibility limits repeat crafting

Intangibility is the counterbalance that stops the preview system from becoming infinite crafting. It is a value shown on the item that ticks up as you craft. Each successful craft raises it, and the number represents the chance your next craft on that base produces only one result instead of several.

Because every item starts at 0% Intangibility, your first craft always succeeds and always shows the full set of outcomes. When a craft “fails,” you still get a result and Sulphur is still spent, but you only see a single option with no choice. The item itself is never damaged, which makes this one of the safest ways to craft in the game.

  • Your first craft on a fresh base is guaranteed to show multiple outcomes.
  • Only successful crafts add Intangibility; failed ones do not stack more.
  • Lower-value currencies such as Alchemy Orbs do not raise it, while high-value currencies like Exalted Orbs typically do.
  • Higher Intangibility mainly raises Sulphur costs and reduces preview reliability over time.

Note: You can sidestep a stalled base entirely. Recombination moves your desired mod onto a fresh, Intangibility-free base, and Awakener’s Orbs create a brand-new output that resets the counter.

Best currency to use with Allflame Crafting

Almost any currency you would normally apply to an item can be previewed, covering the large majority of the currency pool. The value differs a lot by item type and market price, so weigh the Sulphur cost against what the currency is worth before committing. These are the strongest interactions.

CurrencyWhy it works well
Fracturing OrbSplits the item into phantom versions that each keep one modifier, letting you isolate a single desirable mod. Ideal for prepping single-mod bases for Recombinator crafting. Expensive, so use deliberately.
Regal Orb and Exalted Orb (jewels)Jewels cost very little Sulphur yet still give four outcomes. Build two premium mods with Harvest first, then slam a third or fourth for a strong endgame jewel.
Tempering Orb and Tailoring OrbAdd or change implicit modifiers and enchantments. Roughly 10,000 Sulphur per use, usually well below their market price, so worthwhile when you accept the Intangibility gain.
Fossil ResonatorsThree- and four-socket Resonators modify pools and weighting at once. Previewing several results can replace setups that would otherwise need particularly rare fossils. Skip one-socket setups.
Influenced Exalted OrbsAdd an exclusive Influence modifier from a small pool. Multiple previews sharply raise your odds of landing a top-tier Warlord, Shaper, or similar mod as a finishing craft.
Regular Exalted OrbEven a standard slam improves. On a four-mod item, previewing before finishing with the crafting bench adds cheap extra choices.

Influenced items reward this system the most. A Warlord base can pull mods like Culling Strike or Curse on Hit, while Shaper items can roll Charge on Kill or damage based on attributes. High-tier items tend to roll something of similar tier, and with four options in front of you, one of them is often the special mod you were chasing.

Currency that cannot be used at the bench

Because the previews are so strong, anything that could completely transform an item is excluded for balance. If Ancient Orbs worked here, everyone would be printing Headhunters. The following do not function with Allflame Crafting.

  • Eldritch and Elder currency
  • Vaal Orb and Volatile Vaal Orb
  • Mirror of Kalandra
  • Orb of Chance, Ancient Orb, and Tainted Mythic Orb
  • Jeweller’s Orb, Chromatic Orb, and Orb of Fusing
  • Currency that modifies item quality

Ducats and their crafting effects

Ducats are a new rare currency line obtained from specialized Charts and Voyages. They only function at Vesper’s bench, never in your inventory, and each one has a bespoke effect that no standard currency can copy. Kishara’s Ducat, for example, splits an item into ghostly copies that each keep one modifier, giving you a clean base for Recombinator work. Treat expensive Ducats like high-value decisions and test them on a spare base before touching a top-tier rare.

DucatEffect
Kishara’s DucatSplits an item into many ghostly forms, each retaining a single random modifier.
The Genteel’s DucatChanges a modifier that grants one attribute to grant a different attribute.
Brinehook’s DucatCrafts a random Pantheon Aspect skill onto an item.
Cyaxan’s DucatReforges a rare item with random modifiers, including an Infamous modifier.
Katakohi’s DucatEtches over 1 to 3 sockets on gloves, granting random enchantments but making those sockets unusable.
Merrick’s DucatAugments a rare Abyssal Jewel with an extra modifier and corrupts it, even at maximum modifier count.
Rotmother’s DucatAugments a rare belt with a Trap or Mine modifier.
Telesia’s DucatRerolls the room type of a Chart, potentially changing its future connections.
The Changeling’s DucatTransforms into a random Ducat.
Tzamoto’s DucatRandomly either removes all Intangibility from an item or destroys it.

Tzamoto’s Ducat is the escape valve for a stalled base. It is a coin flip: half the time it wipes all Intangibility so you can keep crafting, and half the time it destroys the item. Use it only when the base is worth the gamble.

Confirming a craft worked and avoiding waste

You know a craft succeeded when Vesper presents several ghostly copies and lets you select one. A single result with no choice means Intangibility triggered a failure, though your item stays intact and only the Sulphur is gone. Each outcome is rolled independently against the original item, so it is possible, if rare, for all four copies to show the same modifier. That is intended behavior, not a bug.

Once you pick an outcome, the choice is final. There is no rewind and no way to swap for one of the copies you passed on, so decide before you confirm. Reserve the bench for valuable bases, jewels, and finishing crafts where extra options genuinely reduce risk, and stop chaining previews on one item once Intangibility threatens single-result rolls. Used with discipline, Allflame Crafting turns the riskiest steps of a build into controlled, choosable results.
