A cold zone is a patch of the map that is colder than the land around it, and a banner comes up as you walk into one. The map has 101 cold zones, and 4 of them carry a name of their own: Shattered Convoy, The Crater's Military Convoy, Woodcutters Outpost and Renegade Camp. Nomad Camp also sits inside a cold zone.
For a looting or mining trip, Shattered Convoy has the most nearby, with 55 spots, followed by Renegade Camp with 45. Woodcutters Outpost has 38 and The Crater's Military Convoy has 34. When the banner appears, you have stepped into colder ground than the land you just left.
