Pokémon Pokopia: How to Get to Bubbly Basin

Meet the requirements, learn Dive from Manaphy, and open the underwater gate to reach the new DLC town.

Meet the requirements, learn Dive from Manaphy, and open the underwater gate to reach the new DLC town.

Bubbly Basin is the underwater town added in Part 1 of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. Reaching it takes a specific chain of tasks in the Bleak Beach region, capped off by learning the new Dive move and opening a gate hidden beneath the ocean.

Quick answer: Own the Expansion Pass, complete Bleak Beach’s “Raise the environment level!” request, learn Dive from Manaphy, then dive to the gate west of the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center and scan your Trainer Rank to open it.

Requirements to access Bubbly Basin

Three things must be in place before the gate will work. The Dive move arrived in the free 2.0.0 update on August 5, 2026, the same day Part 1 of the DLC launched, so make sure your game is up to date.

RequirementHow to meet it
Pokémon Pokopia Expansion PassPurchase the paid Expansion Pass DLC from the Nintendo eShop.
“Raise the environment level!” requestComplete this Bleak Beach request by reaching Environment Level 5 in the region.
Dive moveLearn Dive after starting the Bubbly Basin questline (steps below).

You cannot reach the underwater gate without Dive, so learning it is the core of the whole process. The Bubbly Basin missions only appear once the Bleak Beach environment level task is finished.

Learn Dive from Manaphy

Head to the Pokémon Center in Bleak Beach and speak with Professor Tangrowth. He is ready to send you on the adventure when the “What could it be?” prompt appears above his head.
The Professor points you toward a new island that has appeared in the sea, up in the northwest corner of the area. Use your Surf ability to cross the water and land on the island, where a very hungry Manaphy is resting on the sand.

Feed Manaphy before it will help you. Collect five pieces of Seaweed scattered around the small island’s beach and hand them over.
Once fed, Manaphy gets up, chats with you, and teaches you Dive. Swim into the nearby cave on the island to test and finish learning the ability.

The whole Dive sequence takes only about five minutes once you have reached the island.

Meet Popplio and open the Bubbly Basin Gate

Return to the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center. Popplio, one of the new Basin Pokémon, is now waiting right outside. Talk to it to hear about its home region and befriend it for your Basin Pokédex.
Popplio mentions an underwater gate nearby. From the Pokémon Center, head directly west into the water, dive under the surface, and keep swimming west toward the far edge of Bleak Beach until the gate comes into view.

Swim up to the gate and interact with the panel on its right side to scan your Trainer Rank. The gate opens, and you can swim through with Popplio into Bubbly Basin. If Popplio does not follow, make sure it is set to accompany you before you enter.

Note: If the gate will not react to the panel, confirm you have actually learned Dive and finished the “Raise the environment level!” request. Both are hard requirements, and the gate stays sealed until each is done.

Once you swim through the open gate, you are inside Bubbly Basin, an underwater town built on the remains of Cerulean City. It brings new Water-type Pokémon such as the Popplio, Corphish, and Mudkip lines, along with fresh furniture, outfits for Ditto, and Pokémetal Fragments to gather as you develop the area.
