Save up 80,000 C$ before you set out. The shop will not let you complete the purchase without the full amount, and there is no partial payment or trade-in for an older rod.

Travel to the island where Elder Kaito is stationed. Gliding across the water is the fastest approach, and warping in from another region works if you already have the point unlocked.
