RuneScape: Dragonwilds left Early Access on September 15, 2026, arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. If you are starting a fresh world on any of them, two early upgrades sit in plain sight and are easy to walk straight past. Both are Vestige blueprints locked inside chests on rooftops near the opening quest area, and both are craftable within your first hour.
Quick answer: Build wooden scaffolding up the side of the church and the windmill, loot the rooftop chest at each, then study the two Vestige blueprints to unlock the Wooden Training Sword and Leggings of Lightness recipes.
What the Wooden Training Sword and Leggings of Lightness do
The Stone Club is the weapon most players craft first because Doric points you at it. The Wooden Training Sword beats it on almost every line.
| Stat | Stone Club | Wooden Training Sword |
|---|---|---|
| Power Level | 8.0 | 10.0 |
| Damage | 14–18 crush | 21–25 slash |
| Attack combo | 4 | 3 |
| Block | 25 | 33 |
| Special action | Block Breaker (x33) | Barge (x25) |
| Max durability | 700 | 850 |
You trade one hit off the combo chain for a much higher damage floor and ceiling, plus more block and more durability. Giant Rats and Goblin Warriors that take several swings with the club fold quickly with the sword.
The Leggings of Lightness are a different kind of upgrade. They have a Power Level of 0.0 and give +0 melee, ranged and magic defence, so they are not armour in any meaningful sense. What they carry is the Lightness special effect, which raises how much you can haul before you start getting weighed down. On a first playthrough full of ore, logs and quest materials, that is worth more than a few points of defence.

- Enough wood in your inventory to place scaffolding pieces, stairs and platforms against a building.
- A built Crafting Table you can return to.
- 35 Ash Logs for the Wooden Training Sword.
- 10 Wool and 10 Feathers for the Leggings of Lightness.
Zanik’s Rune Mysteries quest asks for 50 Ash Logs, and the sword costs another 35. Chop with both totals in mind or you will hand over your logs and have to go back out to the trees.

How to confirm the upgrades worked
After studying each blueprint, the matching recipe appears in the Crafting Table list. If you cannot see the Wooden Training Sword or the Leggings of Lightness there, the blueprint is still sitting unread in your inventory.
With the sword equipped, the item card reads 21–25 slash damage and a Barge special action, and the durability bar starts at 850/850. With the leggings equipped, the carrying capacity bar at the bottom of the inventory screen extends compared to an empty Legs slot.
Both blueprints stay unlocked once studied, so you can recraft either item later without going back up a roof. Doric’s stone club tasks, Vannaka’s rat hunt and the Ash Log deliveries for Rune Mysteries all go faster with the sword in hand and the leggings on, which is reason enough to make the two detours before pushing further into the opening quest chain.
