The Smasher is a one-handed club in Windrose that you obtain by fishing rather than looting chests, beating bosses, or completing a quest line. It scales with Strength and carries a knockdown proc that fires more often the higher your Strength stat climbs.

How fishing unlocks the Smasher

The Smasher does not appear in any vendor inventory, treasure chest, or boss loot table. The trigger is a fishing catch, specifically a barracuda, which is a deep-water species. Shoreline casts in shallow water will not produce one, so you need to fish from spots that reach deeper sections of the map.

The drop is RNG-based, with no quest flag or progression gate. You simply keep casting in viable deep-water locations until the fish appears. Players who are already filling out the Fish Species dex tend to land it faster, since deep water becomes the only place new dex entries can come from once shallow species are logged.

Completing the full Fish Species dex also rewards the Fishing Ring, which increases Fish Fillet yield from each catch. That pairs naturally with the same deep-water grind, so the two goals stack.

Crafting the Smasher

Once the recipe is unlocked, head to the Weaponsmith Workshop to craft the weapon. The base recipe is straightforward and uses early-game materials.

Crafting takes one second at a Level 1 Weaponsmith Workshop. If you ever scrap the weapon, disassembly returns the same 10 Wood and 5 Copper Ingots.


Stats and combat behavior

The Smasher is a Clubs-class weapon dealing Crude damage. Clubs are one-handed blunt weapons that cannot Perfect Block, so combat with the Smasher leans on posture pressure and trade-hits rather than parry windows.

The knockdown proc is the weapon's defining trait. Stacking Strength increases its trigger rate, which makes it useful in crowd fights and against enemies with breakable posture bars.

Upgrading at the Weaponsmith Workshop

The Smasher follows the standard item-level upgrade track at the Weaponsmith Workshop. Materials shift as you progress through tiers, swapping Copper for Foothills Iron and then Mire Metal at higher bands, with Smithing Flux added from the mid-tiers onward.

Build pairing

Strength-scaling weapons pull from the Crusher branch of the talent system. Pair the Smasher with talents that boost Crude damage, posture break on staggered enemies, and stamina-efficient heavy attacks. The Toughguy branch complements it through survivability picks like Stout Frame and Too Angry to Die, which help you tank trade-hit windows since clubs can't Perfect Block.

For stat allocation, prioritize Strength to feed both raw damage and the knockdown proc. Endurance helps sustain heavy attack chains, while Vitality covers the survivability gap during posture trades.


How it compares to other clubs

The Smasher's damage number is lower than several other clubs, but its A-grade Strength scaling and knockdown proc keep it competitive through the Foothills tier.

Most Strength builds eventually swap to a Crusher, Sturdy Mace, or Bonebreaker as those become available. The Smasher remains a viable transitional pick, especially for players already grinding the fishing dex.

Verifying the unlock

You'll know the Smasher is yours when the barracuda enters your catch log and the Smasher appears in your inventory directly from the fishing reward. The crafting recipe also becomes selectable at any Weaponsmith Workshop, even after you've used or sold the initial copy. If the recipe isn't showing up after a session of fishing, you have not yet hooked a barracuda. Move to deeper water and continue casting.

Note: Plan a long fishing session for this. The drop is purely RNG with no pity timer, so bring extra bait and a rod you're willing to wear down across many casts.

The Smasher rewards patience at the dock more than combat skill, but once it lands in your inventory, it gives Strength builds a flavorful early-to-mid-game club with a knockdown proc that genuinely changes how trash fights play out.
