Suisui S1 vs R1 in Wuthering Waves: Which Upgrade Comes First

A breakdown of what Suisui’s first sequence and Firstlight’s Herald each add, and why the sequence usually wins.

Suisui is a 5-star Glacio Rectifier support in Wuthering Waves, and she is the go-to healer and buffer for Negative Status teams. If you already have her, the next spending question is whether to chase her first sequence (S1) or her signature weapon, Firstlight’s Herald (R1). Both add real value, but they solve different problems.

Quick answer: Pull S1 before R1. The sequence lets Suisui hand out her 50% ATK buff to allies who apply Negative Statuses instead of only those who consume them, which opens her up to far more teams. The weapon is a stat and buff upgrade, but she works fine without it thanks to the free-to-play option, Variation.

What Suisui’s S1 changes

Suisui’s first sequence removes the biggest restriction on her main team buff. Normally, a Resonator only gets her large ATK increase (up to 50% at max Energy Regen) after consuming a Negative Status stack. With S1, allies carrying Undulating Mist also gain that ATK boost when they apply a Negative Status or deal Negative Status damage.

That single change makes her compatible with damage dealers whose whole game plan is stacking debuffs rather than eating them. Characters like Zani and Aemeath, who lean on applying Negative Statuses such as Spectro Frazzle or Fusion Burst, suddenly get full value from her buff instead of only part of it.

S1 also doubles the interrupt resistance she shares. The Reflecting Shadows effect from her third Plume Step lasts 12 seconds instead of 6, and it makes several of her Drizzle Stance attacks immune to interruption. That keeps her rotations clean under pressure.

Note: HP-scaling carries like Cartethyia don’t gain much from the ATK portion, since they don’t scale off attack. For those units, S1’s value comes mostly from the team access and interrupt resistance rather than the raw buff.

What Firstlight’s Herald (R1) gives her

Firstlight’s Herald is Suisui’s signature Rectifier and her strongest weapon on paper. It is built around her stat needs, pushing Energy Regen and Max HP, then adding a team-wide ATK buff on top.

At level 90 it provides 412 base ATK with a 77% Energy Regen main stat. The passive raises her Max HP by 12%, restores extra Concerto Energy when she casts her Resonance Liberation, and grants a 20% ATK buff to all nearby team members once she has both triggered a Glacio Chafe application and applied healing on the field. The extra Energy Regen matters because Suisui wants to reach roughly 260% ER for her maximum buffs, and Firstlight’s Herald gives her about 25% more ER than Variation, freeing up an Echo slot for other stats.

Why S1 wins for most players

The deciding point is flexibility. S1 changes who Suisui can play with, letting her cover apply-based teams that her base kit leaves out, and it makes her sturdier on the field with longer interrupt resistance. The weapon only sharpens what she already does well.

Suisui also isn’t weapon-locked the way many DPS units are. She is one of the more free-to-play-friendly supports in the game, since the 4-star Variation covers her Energy Regen needs well enough to function. That means R1 is a comfort upgrade, while S1 is closer to a genuine expansion of what she can do.

If you own several Negative Status carries and want Suisui slotting into as many of them as possible, prioritize her first sequence. Only reach for Firstlight’s Herald afterward, once you want the extra stat cushion and the added 20% team ATK on top of a support who is already earning her spot.
