TBOD 2 Merchant Location: How to Find the Merchant and Earn Bits

Even-numbered nights, six landmark spawn points, and a Blood Moon shortcut that guarantees six cards.

Even-numbered nights, six landmark spawn points, and a Blood Moon shortcut that guarantees six cards.

The Merchant is the fastest way to permanently raise your income in Tycoon But One Dropper: SQUARED, and it is easy to miss because it only shows up on a schedule. It is a wandering NPC that appears at one of a handful of map landmarks, sells cards for cash, and hands out Bits that stack into a flat percentage boost to everything your single dropper earns.

Quick answer: Wait for an even-numbered night, then run the loop of six spawn points — beach, lighthouse, obelisk, statue, and the dirt patches — staying on dirt paths for the movement speed bonus. When you find the Merchant, buy its cards with cash to collect Bits.

When the Merchant spawns in TBOD 2

Spawns are tied to the day/night cycle shown in the top UI, not to a random timer you can force. The Merchant appears at night, and only on even-numbered nights — so if the counter reads Day 15, there is no point running the route yet. Wait for it to tick over to 16.

There is one exception. The Blood Moon is a rare weather event with roughly a 1-in-100 chance of triggering on any given night, and it guarantees a Merchant spawn regardless of the even-night rule. It also buffs the stock, so the Merchant carries six cards instead of the usual five.

ConditionWhat happens
Even-numbered nightMerchant spawns at one of the map’s landmark locations
Odd-numbered nightNo regular spawn — skip the search
Blood Moon (~1% per night)Guaranteed spawn with six buffed cards
Eclipse (~1 in 500)Rare visual event with no Merchant effect

Fog is the other weather state you will see regularly. It cuts visibility, which makes spotting the Merchant harder, but it also applies a multiplier while active — so it is worth pushing through rather than idling at your base.

All Merchant spawn locations on the map

There are around six possible spawn points, and they are all attached to landmarks you can recognise from a distance. Learning them is the entire skill here — the Merchant does not use a fixed spot, so the only reliable method is checking each candidate in turn.

  • The beach
  • The lighthouse
  • The Obelisk
  • The statue
  • The dirt patches scattered around the map

The dirt patches are the most useful landmark of the group because they double as navigation. Walking on a dirt path increases your movement speed, so a route that strings the patches together gets you between landmarks noticeably faster than cutting across open ground.

How to run the Merchant search route

Bank cash before you leave your tycoon. The Merchant only accepts money, and finding it with an empty wallet wastes the whole night. Hold back enough to clear at least a few cards rather than sinking everything into an upgrader right before the night flips.

Check the day counter in the top UI. If the number is odd, keep upgrading and wait. If it is even, or a Blood Moon has just started, head out immediately.
Pick a fixed loop and stick to it every night rather than wandering. A clean order is beach, then lighthouse, then the statue, then the Obelisk, connecting them via the dirt patches so you keep the speed bonus for as much of the run as possible.

When you reach the Merchant, interact with it and buy the cards it is offering. A normal visit stocks five cards with a small chance of a sixth; a Blood Moon visit always has six. Buy while the night lasts, because the stock goes with the Merchant.

Tip: Prioritise the search hardest during a Blood Moon. You already know a spawn exists, so every second saved on the route is a second spent buying buffed cards.

What Merchant cards give you: Bits and the 10% cash boost

Cards are the delivery mechanism; Bits are the actual reward. Each Bit you collect adds a 10% cash boost, and they stack — ten Bits puts you at a 100% boost, effectively doubling what your single dropper brings in.

That is what separates the Merchant from an ordinary purchase. An upgrader raises the value of the item on your conveyor; a Bit raises everything on top of it, and it keeps paying out for the rest of the run. The loop is simple to state — earn money, find the Merchant, buy cards, gain Bits, earn faster.

ResourceBoost per unitWhere it comes from
Bit10% cashMerchant cards
Essence0.4% cashRebirths and the Obelisk

Bits can also be bought with Robux, which is a shortcut rather than a requirement. Nothing about the Merchant route is gated behind spending.

When to skip the Merchant and rebirth instead

Merchant spending competes with your rebirth timing, and that is the one decision that can cost you real progress. Rebirthing at the Obelisk resets your tycoon structures and current money in exchange for Essence and a permanent multiplier, and Merchant access is part of what re-locks during that reset.

The rule of thumb is straightforward. If you are close to hitting the rebirth requirement, hold your cash and reset first rather than dumping it into cards that are about to be wiped. If the requirement is still a long way off, buy the cards — the Bits will get you there faster than saving would.

Beyond that, keep your core upgraders funded first. Starving the conveyor to chase a card slows the whole run, since the Bits multiply an income you still have to build.

Why you cannot find the Merchant

Almost every failed search comes down to one of three things. You searched on an odd-numbered night, when no regular spawn exists. You searched during the day, when the NPC is not out. Or you covered ground randomly instead of hitting the landmark loop, and the night ended before you reached the right one.

Fog makes the third problem worse by shrinking your view distance, so lean harder on the fixed route during it — you are navigating by landmarks you already know rather than by spotting the Merchant from afar.

You will know the run worked when the cards are purchased and your Bit count goes up, with the cash boost applying to your income from that point on. Because TBOD 2 is updated regularly, spawn behaviour and stock can shift between versions; the current build is always the one to check against on the official TBOD 2 Roblox page.
