The Blood of Dawnwalker: Faith and Punishment Investigate the Attic Guide

Where the attic sits in Svartrau City, what Coen has to inspect with Focus Mode, and what the quest turns into afterward.

The final objective of Faith and Punishment in The Blood of Dawnwalker sounds simple enough — investigate the attic using Focus Mode — but the attic in question has no ground-floor entrance, and the objective only clears once Coen has looked at every clue in the room. It is a night-only job in Svartrau City, and finishing it rolls straight into a new quest.

Quick answer: At night, grapple up to the balcony of the orange wooden house marked in Svartrau City, step into the attic, hold Focus Mode and inspect the corpse plus every highlighted clue around it. The quest completes on the last inspection and Tiny Dancer begins.

Requirements before you head to the attic

Two things gate this objective. The first is the time of day. The attic is reached from the roofline, and the route relies on Coen’s vampiric traversal, so the investigation is done during the night stretch of the day-night cycle — the recorded run starts at Midnight.

The second is the waypoint itself. Track Faith and Punishment in the journal so the marker sits on your map, then travel to that point in Svartrau City. The target is a wooden house with an orange facade, and the marker sits on the upper floor rather than the street.

Note: The Blood of Dawnwalker runs on a fixed clock with a countdown to rescue Coen’s family, so time spent circling the wrong building is time taken from other quests.

How to get into the attic in Svartrau City

Run to the quest marker in Svartrau City after dark. Open the map if the street layout gets confusing — the marker pins the exact building, and the objective can be re-tracked from the map screen at any point.
Ignore the ground floor. There is no usable door at street level, so do not waste time testing entrances. Line yourself up beneath the balcony that hangs off the upper storey of the orange house.
Use Coen’s grapple to pull yourself up onto that balcony. Coen calls it out when you are in the right spot, with lines like “Hmmm… let’s take a look up there.” From the balcony, walk through the attic doorway.

Investigate the attic using Focus Mode

Once you are inside, hold the Focus Mode input — the left trigger on a controller, or the right mouse button on PC. The room darkens and interactive objects light up, which matters here because the attic is cramped and badly lit.

Read the highlight colours before you start clicking on things. They tell you which objects belong to the investigation and which are ordinary scenery.

Inspect the body first. It is the anchor of the whole scene, and Coen reacts as soon as you interact with it: “She… I guess she’s been dead for a while now.” A follow-up line about her being unable to escape points you toward the rest of the clues.
Work through the remaining highlighted objects around the corpse — the note left on the scene, the restraints, and the bedding Coen complains about. Each one triggers a short comment, and the objective only clears once the set is done.

Loot the room before the investigation ends

Finishing the investigation advances the clock. Once the last clue is read, time skips forward and the game shows the “Hours Go By” transition, moving you from Midnight into the Wee Hours. Anything you wanted to do with the remaining night hours ends there.

So sweep the containers in the attic while the investigation is still open. The pickups here are minor crafting material rather than gear — Dog Hide and Tooth show up in the loot window, and Loot All takes the lot in one press.

How to confirm Faith and Punishment is complete

You do not have to check the journal to know it worked. The quest-complete banner fires on the last inspection, XP is awarded, and a Level Up notification appears if that XP tips you over the threshold.

Immediately afterward, the tracked quest swaps over. Faith and Punishment closes out and Tiny Dancer takes its place in the journal, with a fresh objective attached.

The new objective, Investigate the suspicious sound, can be tracked or opened in the journal straight from the map screen if you want the waypoint placed before you drop back down to street level.

Why the attic objective is not completing

There are only a few reasons the objective stays open once you are in the room.

  • You have inspected the corpse but skipped one of the surrounding clues. Re-enter Focus Mode and sweep the room for anything still highlighted.
  • Focus Mode is not held down while you interact. The Inspect prompt is tied to the ability, so release it and the highlight disappears.
  • You are searching the wrong floor. The attic is entered from the balcony, not from inside the building, and there is nothing on the ground level that advances the quest.

Treated efficiently, the whole thing is a single trip up a wall and a handful of inspections. The main thing worth planning around is the clock — the investigation burns the rest of your night, so anything else you wanted to do in Svartrau City with vampiric abilities is better handled before you grapple up to that balcony.
