The Briar Sloughs Tower is one of eleven Scouting Towers scattered across Vale Sangora, and it is usually the second one Coen reaches after the church in his home village. Climbing it marks nearby activities on the world map and hands over the Amalgam Manual from a chest at the top.
Quick answer: Head south after leaving Laslea Glen and follow the river until you reach the stone tower in the bog. Enter at night, destroy the wooden barriers choking the spiral stairs, then press the survey prompt on the roof to reveal the surrounding map.
Briar Sloughs Tower location
The tower stands in the northern half of the map, south of the Castle of Brencis, inside the Briar Sloughs region controlled by Ambrus. Leave Laslea Glen and travel south, keeping the river on your route. Directly across the water sits a Sacred Stone from A Pilgrimage for Power, which is a reliable visual confirmation you are in the right stretch of swamp.
Briar Sloughs is tuned for levels 8 to 16, so the surrounding wildlife and Ambrus’s patrols can outclass a very early character. The tower itself sits away from the heavier encounters, and the climb does not require you to clear the region first.

Scouting Towers only open up after the prologue, and only during Moonrise. The traversal on these structures depends on vampiric powers such as Shadowstep and Planeshift, which Coen cannot use in daylight. Arriving during the day means the climb simply is not available.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Story progress | Prologue completed; free exploration unlocked |
| Time of day | Night (Moonrise) only |
| Abilities | Shadowstep and Planeshift for ledges and walls |
| Region level | Briar Sloughs, levels 8–16 |
| Time cost | None — tower climbs do not advance the day counter |
That last row matters more than it looks. With the rescue timer counting down in days, anything that does not burn time is worth doing early, and it is possible to tag every tower in a single night.

Clearing the blocked stairwell inside the tower
The interior is the only real obstacle here. The spiral staircase is boarded over at several points, and there is no way to squeeze past or jump around the planks. Each barrier has to be broken before the next section of stairs becomes walkable.

How to confirm the tower registered
Surveying plays a short cinematic in which Coen picks out landmarks across the bog, including the largest mill in the area and a pass held by Brencis’s men. His closing line about not finding anything else here is the signal that the sweep is finished.

Open the map immediately afterward. New points of interest should be dotted around the tower’s position, including question marks for unvisited spots. If the map looks unchanged, you left the roof without pressing the survey prompt — go back up and interact with the viewpoint again.
What the Briar Sloughs Tower unlocks
Beyond the map reveal and the Amalgam Manual, this particular climb feeds directly into a side quest chain. A quest marker appears north of Briar Sloughs and south of Laslea Glen for A Pilgrimage for Power, the first of four uriashi sacred stones, which eventually builds toward the Ravenous Flock ability.
The revealed markers also cover the region’s own content, from Ambrus’s collector and transport activities to the Ancient Circles of Vale Sangora and the Wisp Treasure Hunt around the Watermill Hills. Murohn’s Lair is in this region too, so treat some of those newly marked points with caution at low levels.
Note: Discovering the Briar Sloughs region itself awards 50 XP, separate from anything the tower gives you.
If you plan to chain towers in one night, the Briar Sloughs climb pairs neatly with the church tower in Coen’s home village and the Maragir Wealds tower to the east, since none of them cost you a day off the timer.
