Type Soul Weapons Tier List: Every Shinigami, Quincy, and Hollow Blade Ranked

A faction-by-faction ranking of the strongest weapons for progression and PvP, with rarity and standout picks called out.

A faction-by-faction ranking of the strongest weapons for progression and PvP, with rarity and standout picks called out.

Your weapon does most of the heavy lifting in Type Soul. Once you leave low levels and start trading blows with real players, the difference between a top-tier blade and a filler one shows up in every parry, combo, and critical attack. Because weapons drop through RNG and can be rerolled, it pays to know which ones are worth chasing before you burn a reroll. Below is a full breakdown for each faction, with rarity noted so you can gauge how hard a pick is to land.

Quick answer: For raw PvP value right now, target Odachi or Longsword as Shinigami, Antithesis or Warden Gauntlets as Quincy, and Piety or Bloodedge as Hollow.

How weapons drop and how this ranking works

Every faction hands you a weapon through RNG as you create a character and climb ranks. Weapons are split by rarity, and the rarer the tier, the harder it is to roll. The odds break down like this.

RarityDrop rate
Common86.5%
Rare10%
Legendary3%
Mythic0.5%
ExclusiveCondition-based (no drop rate)

Exclusive weapons cannot be rerolled into; they only come from meeting specific in-game conditions. Everything else can be swapped using reroll items, so a common or rare blade is not a dead end.

The placements below weigh two things: how well a weapon carries you through progression and how it performs in PvP. Speed, range, combo extension, guard-breaks, and the strength of a weapon’s critical attack all factor in. This reflects the current live meta.

Odachi and Longsword are the two that reward skill the most. Odachi’s critical attack bakes in a stun and plays out as a three-part swing whose timing you control, which makes it perfect for baiting a panicked parry. The Longsword pairs near-greatsword reach with dagger-level speed, its Bankai Critical grants hyperarmor, and it is genuinely awkward for opponents to parry. The Dagger stays near the top thanks to its speed and pressure. Everything in C isn’t unusable, it just falls behind faster options once players start defending well.

The Quincy roster is unusually friendly, because two of its strongest picks (Antithesis and Cang Du Claws) are common drops. Cang Du Claws is the go-to for Hakuda-style builds, while Antithesis covers greatsword needs. Warden Gauntlets earn their S spot with a critical attack that yanks a target toward you and bypasses invincibility frames, so you can bait a disengage and then punish. Spalten sits in A here as a well-rounded option whose M1 combo carries a slight delay that makes it tricky to parry. Even the Quincy Glock has a niche thanks to separate ground and aerial criticals.

Piety leads the Hollow list on the strength of a massive ranged AOE critical and strong combo potential. Its melee crit grants hyperarmor, can guard-break, and carries a one-second ragdoll, which is exactly enough window to weave in follow-up damage. Bloodedge and Calibre round out reliable S options, while Grimmjow’s Claws stand out as a common drop that punches above its rarity thanks to a fast five-hit combo that stacks bleed and a critical that knocks targets up for combos. If you land Ulquoirra’s Katana or Harribel’s Dagger in B, they still hold their own; they simply lose ground to the faster, higher-ceiling S picks.

Which weapon should you chase first

Pick around your faction and your comfort with parry timing. If you like controlling the tempo of a fight, Odachi and Longsword reward patient baiting. If you prefer close-range pressure, Cang Du Claws and Grimmjow’s Claws give you fast, common-rarity options that don’t require lucky rolls. AOE-critical weapons like Piety and Yamato shine when you want guaranteed chip damage just by staying near a target.

Note: C-tier does not mean broken or useless. Those weapons still function fine for general play; they just fall short of the top picks once you’re facing skilled opponents. Since most weapons can be rerolled, treat a weak roll as a temporary stop rather than a wall, and save your rerolls for a shot at the S-tier options in your faction.
