Black Metal Scrap is the ore that carries you through the Plains and well into the Mistlands, and there is only one reliable way to stockpile it: killing Fulings. The green, goblin-like raiders that build villages across the Plains drop it every single time they die, which makes the farming part simple. Surviving the village long enough to loot it is the hard part.

Where to find Black Metal Scrap in Valheim
Black Metal Scrap exists only in the Plains biome. It does not spawn as a node, it cannot be mined, and no other biome produces it. You get it by fighting, which means finding the golden grassland and then finding the villages inside it.
Fuling villages are clusters of wooden huts and totems scattered across the Plains, usually guarded by a dense group of Fulings. Smaller roaming patrols wander the open grass too, and those are a safer way to pick up your first few pieces before you commit to a camp. Villages sitting near a Swamp or Black Forest border are worth marking on your map, since they are usually the easiest ones to reach from an existing base.
The Plains is one of the game’s deadliest biomes, and Fulings attack in groups. Iron armor is the practical minimum, and silver or padded gear makes the difference between clearing a village and losing everything you carried in.
Fuling drop amounts by type and level
Every Fuling variant drops scrap at a guaranteed rate, but the amount scales sharply with the creature’s star level. Berserkers are by far the best return per kill, which is why cleared villages tend to net far more metal than an equal amount of time spent hunting patrols.

Fulings also drop Coins and Bone Fragments alongside the scrap, so expect your inventory to fill with things you did not come for.
How to farm Black Metal Scrap from a Fuling village
Dealing with the weight problem
At 10 weight per piece, scrap eats your carry capacity faster than almost anything else you will pick up in the Plains. A cleared village can easily push you past your limit and trigger the “You are carrying too much” warning, which slows your movement to the point where escaping a fight stops being an option.
The fix is to open your inventory mid-run and dump the filler. Bone Fragments in particular pile up from every Fuling kill and are rarely worth the weight when you are carrying metal. Coins are light enough to keep.
Place a portal just outside the village’s aggro range and ferry loads back to base. Scrap cannot travel through portals, but everything else can, and a nearby portal saves the long walk home after each clear.
Smelting Black Metal Scrap into Black Metal
The regular Smelter will not accept the scrap. Black Metal requires a Blast Furnace, and the Blast Furnace recipe only appears after you have an Artisan Table, which in turn requires Dragon Tears from Moder, the Mountain biome boss. You can hoard scrap before that fight, but you cannot convert any of it.
Once Moder is down, build the Artisan Table with 2 Dragon Tears and 10 Wood, then place the Blast Furnace near it. The furnace itself costs:

Loading it works like the Smelter. Each bar of Black Metal costs 1 Black Metal Scrap and 2 Coal, and finished bars drop out the front on their own. Surtling Cores come from Surtlings in the Swamp or from Burial Chambers in the Black Forest, and those same Surtlings are a convenient source of Coal while you are there.
