Cloudberries are the one food item in the Plains you can collect without fighting anything. They sit in plain sight on low bushes scattered across the grass, they stack to 50, and they feed into some of the strongest meals and meads in the game. The catch is that the Plains is also where Deathsquitos, Fulings, and Lox live, so picking berries is rarely as calm as it looks.
Quick answer: Cloudberries only grow on low bushes in the Plains biome. Walk up and interact to pick them, then pin the patch on your map — the berries regrow after 300 minutes.
Where cloudberries grow in Valheim
Cloudberry bushes spawn exclusively in the Plains. No other biome produces them, and there is no seed, so you cannot plant them in your farm the way you would carrots or onions. Everything you own has to be picked by hand.
The plants are small and low to the ground, similar in shape to raspberry and blueberry bushes, with clusters of yellow-orange berries that stand out against the pale grass. They are common — noticeably more common than the berry bushes of earlier biomes — so a single flat stretch of Plains will usually hold several patches within sprinting distance of each other.

Deathsquitos hit hard and approach from behind while you are looking at the ground. Keep your camera moving, and treat any high-pitched buzzing as a reason to stop picking.
The first cloudberry you ever pick also unlocks three build recipes at the workbench — the Blue, Red and White Banner, the White and Blue Striped Banner, and the White Banner — which is the clearest confirmation that the item registered.
Cloudberry respawn time and how to protect a patch
A picked bush regrows its fruit after 300 minutes, or five hours of play. The plant itself stays where it is, so a pinned patch is effectively a renewable supply as long as you leave it alone.
Flattening the ground with a hoe will not harm cloudberry plants — clearing ground cover leaves them intact. Destroying a plant outright is permanent, though, because it will never grow back.
Cloudberry food stats
You can eat them straight from the inventory by right-clicking the stack. They are a stamina food, and they occupy one of your three food slots for the full duration.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Max health | +13 |
| Max stamina | +40 |
| Healing | 1 hp per tick |
| Duration | 15 minutes |
| Weight / stack | 0.1 / 50 |
| Item ID | Cloudberry |
The buff icon starts flashing at the halfway mark, roughly 7.5 minutes in, which is your cue to eat another handful and refresh the timer. Valheim 1.0 lists the raw berries at 15 health and 25 stamina instead, so check the item tooltip on your own build before planning a food loadout around them.
Cloudberries are teleportable, so you can carry a full stack back through a portal rather than sailing it home.
What to spend cloudberries on
Meals, meads and barley wine
| Recipe | Cloudberries | Other ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Lox Meat Pie | 2 | Cooked Lox Meat x2, Barley Flour x4 |
| Salad (x3) | 3 | Jotun Puffs x3, Onion x3 |
| Plains Pie Picnic | 5 | Bread x3, Lox Meat Pie x2, Grasslands Herbalist Harvest |
| Unbaked Sweetbread | 2 | Egg x1, Barley Flour x1, Honey x1 |
| Fire Resistance Barley Wine (x6) | 10 | Barley x10 |
| Medium Stamina Mead (x6) | 10 | Honey x10, Yellow Mushroom x10 |
| Lingering Stamina Mead (x6) | 10 | Sap x10, Jotun Puffs x10 |
| Anti-Sting Concoction (x6) | 10 | Grouper x3, Fragrant Bundle |
The mead and wine bases are made at the Mead Ketill and then fermented; pies and unbaked doughs go through the Food Preparation Table and Stone Oven. Anti-Sting is worth noting because it repels Deathsquitos, which makes the next berry run considerably less dangerous.
Banners
| Banner | Cloudberries | Other ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| White Banner | 4 | Coal x2, Finewood x2, Leather Scraps x6 |
| Orange Banner | 3 | Carrot x2, Finewood x2, Leather Scraps x6 |
| White and Blue Striped Banner | 3 | Blueberries x2, Finewood x2, Leather Scraps x6 |
| Blue, Red and White Banner | 1 | Raspberries x2, Blueberries x2, Finewood x2, Leather Scraps x6 |
All four are built at the workbench and are purely decorative.
Taming Lox
Cloudberries are the taming food for Lox, and you only need 3 berries per animal. Sneak toward a herd, scatter berries on the ground, and back off. Once a yellow dot appears above a Lox it will start eating, and you feed it again roughly every 10 minutes.
From there you need to stay within 64 meters of the animal for 30 minutes without drawing aggro. A Brew of Animal Whispers halves that to 15 minutes. If a red exclamation mark appears, run and let the Lox calm down before trying again. A tamed Lox can be bred for meat and pelts, or ridden once you build a Lox Saddle from 10 Leather Scraps, 20 Linen Thread, and 15 Black Metal.
Because the berries cost nothing but time, the sensible habit is to pin two or three good patches near your Plains outpost and clear them whenever you pass through. Five hours of play later, they are full again.
