Valheim: How to Summon Yagluth at His Plains Altar

Fill all five Offering Bowls, then use the central Mystical Altar — the final step most players miss.

Fill all five Offering Bowls, then use the central Mystical Altar — the final step most players miss.

In Valheim, Yagluth is boss number five. To bring him out, you must make a precise offering at a designated Plains location. Filled all five bowls with Fuling Totems but nothing happened? The missing piece is the final interaction: placing totems in the bowls alone will not call him.

Quick answer: Place one Fuling Totem in each of the five Offering Bowls at Yagluth’s altar, then interact with the central Mystical Altar rune stone and choose “Offer item.” That last step triggers the sacrifice and spawns Yagluth.

Five Fuling Totems go into the five Offering Bowls on Yagluth’s altar, then the Mystical Altar stone is used and Yagluth appears.

What you need before you go

The offering consists of exactly five Fuling Totems; you need no other item. There’s no need for a crafting station or a built structure, either. Yagluth accepts only totems. Each weighs 1.0, and default portal settings allow them through, so you can collect them over multiple trips instead of bringing all five back by boat.

You can find totems in Plains areas occupied by Fulings. When left in the open, their purple glow makes them easy to pick out after dark. Check these spots:

Village bonfire pedestalsFuling villagesAbout 50% per bonfire
Fuling outpostsPlains guard towersGuaranteed in some layouts
Fuling BerserkersVillage perimeters10% on death

Fuling villages are your most dependable option, and you can search them while gathering black metal, barley, and flax. Look beside the central bonfires for small stone pedestals bearing totems; interact with a totem to collect it. As another source, Fuling Berserkers have 800 health and drop coins and black metal scrap, making their patrols a useful fallback when the pedestals are empty.

Collect a visible totem before breaking its pedestal or the structure it rests on. If you destroy the object first, the totem may disappear instead of dropping.

Finding Yagluth’s altar in the Plains

Look for an enormous stone hand rising from the earth, its five hooked pillars surrounding a dark table. Its high outline is visible from far away, even from a ship sailing along the coast. There can be as many as four altars in one world; they are separated by at least 3,000 meters. Each is in the Plains, set back from the biome’s edge.

A Vegvisir rune stone may reveal the altar’s location on your map; these stones are usually within rings of standing stones like Stonehenge. This marker ranks among the game’s rarest runestones, so many players locate the altar before ever finding one. To use your time well, scan broad Plains shorelines by ship for the claw-shaped structure instead of searching every stone circle.

Deal with nearby threats before starting the offering. Any living Deathsquitos, Fulings, or roaming Lox in the area can rush into the battle as soon as Yagluth appears. Once the summoning starts, you cannot stop it.

Placing the totems and making the sacrifice

Stand inside the curve of the altar. All five bowls sit along the top of the dark stone block, and you can reach every one of them from a single spot without walking around — the view simply shifts along the curve as you aim.

Point at any of the five bowls atop the block until “Offering Bowl [E] Attach item.” appears. Keep your aim directly on a bowl; aiming even slightly beside it won’t bring up the prompt.

The “Offering Bowl [E] Attach item” prompt appears when your aim sits directly on a bowl.
Press E. One Fuling Totem leaves your inventory and a pale, antlered totem stands up in the bowl, ringed by a pink glow. Your totem stack drops by one. You don’t pick a hotbar slot — the attach pulls straight from your inventory.
Repeat for the other four bowls. Each bowl takes exactly one totem. When all five are filled, the pink glow covers the whole block and your totem stack is gone from the hotbar.

With totems in every bowl, the glow spreads across the block — but nothing summons yet.
Move your aim downward onto the dark rune stone within the curve. When “Mystical Altar [E] Offer item.” appears, press E. Pink energy flares as the five totems are used up, starting the summoning. This interaction is what brings the boss into the world.

How to know it worked

You’ll get three confirmations in quick succession. The game prints “You make the sacrifice,” then the sky darkens to deep purple, then “Yagluth’s twisted soul has been summoned” appears with a red boss health bar labeled YAGLUTH at the top of the screen. That bar sits in front of 10,000 health. A huge skeletal torso starts pushing up through the ground at the center of the altar, and the fight controls (Attack, Secondary attack, Block, Dodge) appear at the bottom.

Yagluth takes time to emerge, and he is unable to attack during the animation. Take advantage of it: drink your Fire Resistance Barley Wine, activate a Forsaken Power, and get in free hits as he climbs out. Save enough stamina to dodge his opening attack.

Why Yagluth won’t spawn after five totems

Putting five totems into the five bowls isn’t enough to start the summon. You must then interact with the Mystical Altar stone; forgetting that step is the common cause of Yagluth “won’t spawn.” Other altar issues can also cause trouble.

  • Dropped a totem on the block instead of attaching it? Aiming there shows “Fuling Totem [E] Pick up.” Pick it back up and attach it with E.
  • When a bowl is full, its prompt reads “Offering Bowl ( Fuling Totem )” and “[Hold E] Take item.” A tap won’t retrieve the totem; hold E to take it back.
  • Anything short of five bowls gives an “Incomplete offering” message, and the altar does nothing.
  • The former count of three totems no longer applies. The altar has five bowls, and each one needs a totem.

What Yagluth drops and summoning him again

Yagluth always drops the Yagluth Trophy and three Torn Spirit, which you need to construct a Wisp Fountain. His Forsaken power grants lightning resistance, +10% to all damage types, and +25 Farming skill; it lasts 5 minutes and has a 20-minute cooldown. Beating him also makes the Egg available from Haldor for 1,500 coins.

Yagluth can be summoned repeatedly, as can any other Valheim boss. The altar stays as it was after his defeat, so bring five more Fuling Totems and repeat the offering. Fulings continue to spawn in villages, while Berserkers remain on patrol; finding another set usually depends on how far you travel, not luck. Before your next fight, stash a few totems in a chest beside a portal.
