A clan tag in WARDOGS is a short piece of text that sits in front of your name on the scoreboard and in the kill feed, so teammates and enemies can see which group you run with. It is not a reward, it is not tied to progression, and you do not need to be on a clan-run server to use it. The whole thing is a text field buried a few rows down in the settings menu.
Quick answer: Press Escape, open Settings, go to the Gameplay tab, scroll to the Social section, type up to four characters into the Clan Tag field, press Enter, then click Apply.
Clan Tag setting: location and limits
The setting is not part of a clan system, a profile page, or a menu you unlock later. It lives with the rest of the Gameplay options, under a subcategory called Social, roughly the seventh row down the list. Because it is a normal settings entry, you can edit it mid-match without leaving the server.

How to confirm the clan tag is working
Close the menu and return to the game. The tag shows up immediately alongside your name, so the fastest check is the squad list on the left of the HUD or the scoreboard, where your entry now reads with the tag attached. No relog or match restart is needed.

If nothing changed, there are only two common reasons. Either Apply was never clicked before closing the menu, or the text was typed but Enter was not pressed, leaving the field uncommitted. Re-enter the tag and finish both actions in order.
Note: Reset to Defaults on the same screen clears the Clan Tag field along with your other gameplay options, so you will need to retype the tag afterwards.
Clan tags versus squads and factions
The tag is cosmetic text you write yourself. It does not group you with anyone, does not place you in a squad, and has no effect on which of the three factions you deploy under. Squads are handled separately in the squad menu, where you join an existing squad such as Alpha-1 or create your own.

Because the field is free text, nothing stops two players from wearing the same four letters. Organized communities get around this by agreeing on a tag internally and asking members to type it in manually, which is why you will see whole servers running matching abbreviations. Pick the tag your group already uses, apply it once, and it stays in place until you change it.
