World of Warcraft: How to Get Hippogryph Down in A Little Beauty

The eight feathers this Darkshore quest asks for are ground pickups, not mob drops — here is exactly where to look.

The eight feathers this Darkshore quest asks for are ground pickups, not mob drops — here is exactly where to look.

Plenty of players stall out on the Darkshore quest A Little Beauty for the same reason: the objective reads 0/8 Hippogryph Down, so the instinct is to start killing hippogryphs. That never moves the counter. Hippogryph Down is an object on the ground, and the entire quest is a scavenger hunt through a nesting area.

Quick answer: Hippogryph Down comes from no creature drop; collect eight big blue feathers that glow, scattered across the hippogryph nesting grounds in Darkshore, east of the Ruins of Auberdine by Cliffspring River.

Why killing hippogryphs does not give Hippogryph Down

Hippogryph Protectors and the other hippogryphs patrolling the area do not carry the quest item. Clearing them out can make looting safer, but their corpses will never advance the counter. The feathers exist as separate lootable objects placed around the nests, and each one is worth exactly one point of progress.

Visually, they are hard to miss once you know what to look for. Each feather is oversized, tinted blue and ringed with the usual yellow sparkle effect that WoW puts on lootable quest objects. They sit low to the ground, often tucked against tree roots, slopes and the nests themselves.

How to collect all 8 Hippogryph Down feathers

Travel east out of the Ruins of Auberdine and follow the path toward Cliffspring River. The nesting grounds sit in the hills and wooded stretches around the river, and the whole route is walkable at the level this quest is offered.

Once you are in the nesting area, stop scanning the sky and watch the floor instead. Run the paths slowly and look for the glowing blue feathers lying in the grass, at the base of trees and around exposed roots.

Interact with each feather to loot it. There is a short channel while you pick it up, so avoid starting one while a hippogryph is mid-attack, since taking damage can interrupt you.
Open your world map if you lose your bearings. Confirming that you are still inside the Darkshore nesting zone near Cliffspring River is faster than wandering, and it keeps you from drifting toward Ameth’Aran or the war camp by accident.

Deal with the Hippogryph Protectors that aggro as you sweep the area. Killing them does nothing for the counter, but clearing the ones guarding a nest lets you channel the pickup without being knocked out of it.

Keep circling the nests, including the raised ground where the eggs are, until the tracker reads 8/8 Hippogryph Down. Feathers are spread across the area rather than clustered in one spot, so a loop of the nesting ground is more efficient than camping a single nest.

Other players farming the same quest can grab a feather before you reach it. If someone beats you to one, move on and come back around; feathers repopulate as the area cycles.

Grouping does not share feather progress

Running with a party makes the hippogryphs easier to handle, but it does not split the workload on the objective itself. Progress is tracked per character, so every player in the group has to loot their own eight feathers. One person clicking a feather does not credit anyone else standing next to them.

Confirming the quest is complete

Once the objective counter on the screen’s right reads 8/8, the quest becomes ready to turn in, marking the end of the search. Return to the village, give the feathers to the quest giver, and finish A Little Beauty.

The whole thing takes only a few minutes once you stop treating the hippogryphs as the target. Look down, follow the sparkles, and the counter fills itself.
