Palworld: Idiosyncratic Loses Its Defense Bonus on Base-Assigned Pals

The Rank 4 passive's +25% defense stops working the moment a Pal starts a base job, and here is how to confirm and work around it.

The Rank 4 passive’s +25% defense stops working the moment a Pal starts a base job, and here is how to confirm and work around it.

Idiosyncratic looks like a top-tier survivability passive, but it has a defect that hits tanky base defenders specifically. When a Pal carrying Idiosyncratic is sent to work at a base, the skill’s +25% defense quietly stops applying. The Pal keeps every other benefit while in your party or Palbox, then loses that chunk of defense the instant it is assigned to a base job.

Quick answer: Idiosyncratic’s defense bonus only counts while the Pal is in your party or Palbox. If you want the defense to apply to a base-deployed Pal, swap Idiosyncratic for a defense passive that works at base, such as Burly Body (+20% defense), at the Pal Surgery Table.

How the Idiosyncratic defense bug behaves

The problem shows up in the passive skill defense line on a Pal’s stats screen. On a full defense build, an Orserk at level 80 reads +105% passive defense while it sits in the party. Move that same Pal onto a base to work, and the number drops to +80%. That missing 25 points is exactly the defense share Idiosyncratic is supposed to provide, which confirms the passive is the piece failing to apply.

In party / Palbox+105%Yes
Assigned to a base job+80%No

Every other part of Idiosyncratic still functions as intended. The regeneration and the two status immunities are not the issue here. Only the defense component gets dropped once the Pal starts working, which makes the passive a poor fit for a Pal you plan to leave stationed at a base for defense.

What Idiosyncratic is supposed to do

Idiosyncratic is a Rank 4 passive added in the 1.0 update. It bundles four survivability effects into a single skill slot, which is why it is attractive for all-rounder tanks.

EffectValue
Pal and Player Auto Health Regeneration Rate+50%
Defense+25%
Poison DamageImmune
Burn DamageImmune

The defense value is close to Diamond Body territory, and the regeneration bonus helps you as the trainer too. In combat with your active Pal, all four effects are present. The bug is limited to base assignment, not general use.

Fix a base defender: swap Idiosyncratic for Burly Body

If the Pal’s job is to sit at a base and soak damage during raids, replace Idiosyncratic with a defense passive that keeps working at base. Burly Body grants +20% defense and applies correctly to base-deployed Pals, so the defense actually scales up when the Pal is stationed. On the same Orserk build, that change pushed base defense up to 6,400 instead of losing the bonus.

Build a Pal Surgery Table (also shown as the Pal Operating Table) at your base if you do not already have one. This is where passive skills are modified.
Interact with the table and open the surgery menu for the Pal you want to change. Remove Idiosyncratic from its passive slots.
Apply Burly Body in its place. Once the surgery completes, assign the Pal to a base job and check the stats screen. The passive defense bonus should now hold at its full value instead of dropping.

Note: Keep Idiosyncratic on Pals you fight with directly. The swap only makes sense for a dedicated base defender, since that is the exact situation where the +25% fails.

How to verify the bug yourself

You can reproduce this in a few seconds with any Pal that has Idiosyncratic. Open the Pal’s stats and note the passive skill defense percentage while it is in your party. Then assign the Pal to a base job and open the stats again. If the passive defense number drops by 25 points once the Pal is working, Idiosyncratic is failing to apply at base. Summoning the Pal back out to your party restores the full bonus, which isolates base assignment as the trigger.

Until this is patched, treat Idiosyncratic as a combat and party passive rather than a base-defense passive. For Pals you leave stationed to defend a base, a defense passive that applies at base, like Burly Body, gives you the protection the numbers actually promise.
