Soul’s Remnant: How to Respec Skills and Free Up Skill Points

How SP caps your combined skill level, and the exact way to lower or drop a skill to make room for another.

Skills in Soul’s Remnant work across four archetypes, and you can run several at once. Swapping them out is not a single reset button. Instead, you free up room by lowering the level of a skill you already have, which returns Skill Points you can spend elsewhere.

Quick answer: Select a skill, open Manage Level, and drop its level to refund Skill Points, or drag the skill out of your Skill menu entirely. You cannot re-lock an unlocked skill to recover the materials spent on it.

How Skill Points cap your combined skill level

Skills are not unlocked with Skill Points (SP). You unlock them with Dull Life Essences once you meet each skill’s unlock conditions. SP does something different. It sets the total combined level you are allowed to run across your active skills.

With five SP, for example, you can raise a skill to level 5. The first level of a basic skill does not cost a point, so that same pool actually lets you reach level 6 on it. Past that limit you cannot upgrade further, even if you have the crafting materials on hand, because you are out of SP.

The amount of SP you hold dictates the combined skill level you can run.

Because SP is shared, adding a new skill to your loadout means taking a level away from something you are already using. This is the core of respeccing in Soul’s Remnant.

Lower or remove a skill to free up SP

Open your Skill menu and select the skill you want to reduce. This is where you manage the levels invested across your active skills.
Choose Manage Level and lower the skill’s level. Each level you remove returns SP to your pool, which you can then put toward a different skill.

Manage Skill Levels lets you dial a skill up or down and confirm the change.
To remove a skill from your rotation completely, drag it out of your Skill menu. That clears the SP it was using so another skill can take its place.

You know it worked when the freed SP appears back in your available pool and you can raise another skill up to that new limit.

What you cannot undo

Unlocking a skill is permanent. There is no option to lock a skill again and reclaim the Dull Life Essences and materials you spent to open it. What you can recover is SP, either by lowering the skill’s level or by dragging it out of the menu.

Note: You are never boxed into one archetype. You can unlock skills across all of them and switch whenever you like. The catch is that the game only grants EXP to the skills and archetypes that are currently active, so anything sitting on the bench does not progress.

How to get more Skill Points

Every character level grants a Skill Point along with attribute points, so raising your level is the direct way to increase the combined skill level you can support. Completing quests is the fastest route to EXP.

Talk to NPCs to pick up quests, then press / on your keyboard to view active quests and pin them to your screen. Most early quests push you across different regions to fight enemies, which levels you up quickly while you gather the resources needed to unlock and upgrade the skills you want to keep.

Because unlocking is one-way but SP is fully recoverable, the practical approach is to open the skills you are curious about, then keep shifting levels between them until you settle on a combination that fits your current level and playstyle.
