Mortal Shell 2: How to Cleanse the Citadel Annex Beacon (Hushed Sanctum)

Clear the Hushed Sanctum dungeon, claim the Stillblade's Stone, and cleanse the Citadel Annex core.

Clear the Hushed Sanctum dungeon, claim the Stillblade’s Stone, and cleanse the Citadel Annex core.

The Citadel Annex beacon in the Faded Citadel hides a compact combat dungeon called the Hushed Sanctum. Running it to the end cleanses the beacon’s corrupted core and hands you the Stillblade’s Stone, a Level 1 Tarstone. The route is linear, but a mix of ranged casters and spider-type enemies can catch you off guard on the narrow bridges and platforms.

Quick answer: At the Citadel Annex beacon, choose Cleanse Beacon to enter the Hushed Sanctum. Follow the single path forward, use the red rift to reach the high ledge, kill the final mage, open the chest for the Stillblade’s Stone, then cleanse the crystal core to finish. The Beacon Cleansed message confirms it worked.

Where the Citadel Annex beacon is

The Citadel Annex beacon sits inside the Faded Citadel, the area you reach after crossing the Gate of Infinity in the Vestige of Infinity section of Mammon. As you climb through the Ashen Sanctum, you pass a cave full of eggs and reach a staircase that leads to a balcony. The beacon is on that balcony. After you claim the nearby Laterite, walk up the stairs and follow the stone platform around until you find the opening where the beacon is placed.

Interact with the beacon and open its menu. Instead of resting, pick Cleanse Beacon to be pulled into the Hushed Sanctum.

Enemies inside the Hushed Sanctum

The dungeon leans on two threats. Ranged spellcasters punish you on bridges and open ledges, while spider-type creatures swarm in the pillared chamber. Deal with the casters first so you are not soaking projectiles while cornered.

Hushed Sanctum route to the core

After the loading screen, move forward into the Hushed Sanctum and cross the first bridge. A ranged spellcaster waits on the narrow span, so push in and take it out before it can pressure you from distance.

Enter the tunnel ahead. A pack of melee enemies mixed with spider-like creatures attacks here. Hold the tight space and clear them before advancing.
Climb the stairs to face a teleporting lightning caster. It blinks around the space, so bait a cast, close in during its recovery, and finish it.
Move into the large pillared room, the spider chamber. Multiple spider enemies attack in waves. Use the pillars as cover and grab the item resting on the purple pedestal while you clear them.

Once the chamber is clear, work through the platforming section and drop down to the lower ledge. A ranged enemy holds the lower path, so deal with it before continuing.
Drop into the circular arena below. A giant spider briefly appears here. Cross to the red rift and use it to teleport up to the higher platform.

On the high ledge, a mage guards the chest. Take it down, then open the chest to collect the Stillblade’s Stone.
With the Tarstone in hand, interact with the corrupted crystal core to cleanse it. You are then returned to the Citadel Annex beacon.

Stillblade’s Stone reward

Clearing the Hushed Sanctum rewards the Stillblade’s Stone, a Level 1 Tarstone. Equipping it grants access to a unique Light Combo Finisher, extending your light attack string with a new closing hit. You can inspect its stats on the inventory screen right after you pull it from the chest.

How to confirm the beacon is cleansed

You know the run is complete when the Beacon Cleansed notification appears and the game drops you back at the Citadel Annex beacon in the Faded Citadel. From there you can explore the surrounding area or use the beacon to level up, change your Shell and equipment, and fast travel through Mether’s Breath.

If you do not see that message, the core has not been cleansed yet. The most common reason is opening the chest and then leaving without touching the crystal core. Return to the core after collecting the Stillblade’s Stone and interact with it to trigger the cleanse.
