Requirements, every upgrade level, and the wide defenders worth spending 25,000 coins on.

The Guardian of the Wing Evolution in FC 26 upgrades a single wide defender from your Ultimate Team club across four levels. It costs 25,000 coins to start, and each level only asks you to play a match with the active EVO player, so the real decision is which card you slot in before you begin.

Quick answer: Pick a natural LB or RB rated 97 or lower that already has strong physicality and defending, since this Evolution pours most of its boosts into pace, defending, and dribbling. Alphonso Davies PTG, Maldini GOTG Icon, and Zambrotta FUTTIES Icon are among the strongest fits.

Guardian of the Wing Evolution requirements

Any card you choose has to sit inside two limits. There are no PlayStyle or rarity caps, which keeps the pool wide and lets you fit in high-rated special items, including cards with five PlayStyle+ ratings, as long as they respect the overall and position rules.

Every upgrade level and stat boost

The Evolution runs through four levels. Numbers written as +9|98 mean the stat rises by 9 up to a cap of 98. Each level unlocks after you play one match in any mode using the active EVO player.

LevelUpgrades
Level 1Overall +9|98, Passing +10|95, Acceleration +10|98, Agility +14|94, Balance +14|95, Reactions +14|94, Sprint Speed +10|98
Level 2Heading Acc. +12|90, Interceptions +12|96, Jumping +8|92, Def. Aware +12|97, Slide Tackle +12|98, Stand Tackle +12
Level 3Acceleration +10|98, Aggression +8|95, Sprint Speed +10|98, Stamina +8|98, Strength +8|96
Level 4Ball control +14|96, Dribbling +14|97, Composure +15|98, Weak Foot +4, Skills +3

Because the caps sit high, cards that already have strong base pace and physicality gain the least filler and the most usable ceiling. Slower or weaker items still climb, but they eat more of the boost just reaching a competitive level.

Best players for Guardian of the Wing

These wide defenders make the most of the offered boosts while staying inside the 97 overall cap. Any of them can also anchor an existing Evolution chain, which stretches the value of the coins you spend.

Tip: Prioritise a card whose pace and strength already sit near the top of the pool. The Level 3 and Level 4 boosts sharpen sprint speed, stamina, dribbling, and composure, turning a solid base defender into one that can recover against fast wingers and still carry the ball forward.

How to complete each level

Buy the Evolution for 25,000 coins and apply it to an eligible LB or RB rated 97 or lower. The card becomes your active EVO player.
Play one match in any mode with that player in your starting eleven. Finishing the match unlocks the Level 1 stat boosts.
Repeat the single-match task three more times to clear Levels 2, 3, and 4. Each completed match applies that level’s upgrades immediately.

You know it worked when the card’s stats and level indicator update in the Evolutions menu after each match. Once all four levels show as complete, the player carries the full stat, Weak Foot, and Skill Move gains permanently.

Since the only barriers are the 97 overall ceiling and the LB or RB requirement, the smartest move is to feed in a card you already plan to use long term, ideally one built for chaining into future Evolutions rather than a throwaway pick.
