How to clear the throneroom trap, survive the endless spawns, and finish Lacra’s questline for The Patricide ending.

Midnight Reckoning is the last quest in Lacra’s storyline in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it is the gate that stands between Coen and the ending where the two of you face Brencis together. Most of it plays out as a straight run through a castle interior, but the final stretch is where players stall out, because the game stops behaving like a normal fight.

Quick answer: During the “Escape the trap” objective, enemies respawn without limit. Do not try to clear the room. Keep pushing through the corridors toward the exit, fighting only what physically blocks your path.

What Midnight Reckoning unlocks

Midnight Reckoning sits at the end of Lacra’s personal quest chain in the Rockfalls region. Finishing it is what makes her available as your partner for the final confrontation, and defeating Brencis alongside her awards The Patricide trophy or achievement.

Whether the quest is even available to you depends on the alliances and choices you have made up to that point. If you never started Lacra’s chain, the quest does not appear, and her ending path is closed off for that save.

Lacra’s questline order (prerequisites)

Midnight Reckoning will not trigger until the earlier quests in her chain are done. Work through them in this order.

Note: keep a manual save before you commit to the finale. The same save can be reloaded to see other endings, including the Crake path, without replaying Lacra’s chain.

Reaching the throneroom

Follow the objective marker for “Make your way to the throneroom.” The route is linear and the enemies here are the pale, ghoulish variety that die quickly to claws.
Before the objective flips over, open the pause menu and use Quicksave or Save Game. The section that follows cannot be paused out of comfortably once the spawns start, and a save here saves you a long walk if things go badly.
Check your loadout while you are in the menu. Toggle Active Abilities so the ones you actually want are equipped, since you will be leaning on movement and crowd-clearing rather than long duels.

Escape the trap: the infinite spawn rule

Once the objective changes to “Escape the trap,” the encounter stops being a fight you can win. Enemies keep spawning for as long as you stay in the area, so kill counts, XP ticks, and cleared rooms mean nothing. The only thing the game is checking is whether you have reached the exit.

Move immediately. Treat every group as an obstacle, not a target, and break contact as soon as there is a gap to run through.
Fight only what is directly in your way. Two or three swings to open a lane is enough. Turning to chase stragglers is how players end up surrounded, because replacements arrive behind you while you are busy.
Skip pickups. Loot prompts appear along the corridors, and stopping to grab them hands the spawns free time to close in. Come back for anything you want after the sequence resolves.

Keep working forward through the corridors until you find the way out. Dialogue between Coen and Lacra plays over the run, including her line about the curse loosening its grip, which is a good sign you are on the intended path rather than circling.

How to tell it worked

The escape is complete when the “Escape the trap” objective clears from the journal and enemies stop arriving. From there, Midnight Reckoning closes out and Lacra becomes available for the final confrontation. You start the ending by speaking to her at the marked objective.

If you are still taking hits after what feels like a full room cleared, the objective has not advanced and you are still inside the trap. That is the tell to stop fighting and start moving.

Why players get stuck here

  • Treating the area as a clearable arena. There is no enemy count to grind down, so standing your ground only drains health and blood.
  • Backtracking to sweep rooms you already passed, which lets fresh spawns fill in behind you.
  • Pausing to loot or swap gear mid-run instead of before the objective started.

After Midnight Reckoning: the branch you still have

Committing to Lacra does not lock the outcome. Right before the final boss on her path, Brencis offers a deal to hand over your allies in exchange for your family. Choosing “I accept your offer. I’m sorry, Lacra” swaps the outcome to The Turncoat instead of The Patricide, so keep a save at that decision point if you want both.

One deadline to respect: the story runs on a 30 in-game day limit before your family is sacrificed. Lacra’s chain is not long enough to threaten that on a focused run, but if you have been spending time segments freely on side content, check the day counter before you head to the throneroom.
