Midway through A Study in Crimson, the side quest that introduces Vicho in Svartrau City, the game hands you a key with no explanation and an objective that reads “Find out what Eli’s key opens.” The answer is in the same building, a few steps from where you picked the key up, and it is easy to walk past because the container is wedged out of sight.
Quick answer: Inspect Eli’s body in the basement of the jeweller’s house to receive the Jeweller’s Key, then return to the ground floor and open the small chest tucked under the back of the staircase, behind a shelf. It contains a Lump of Silver and a Silver Cross.

The key objective only exists inside the investigation Vicho asks you to help with. Vicho is a Vrakhiri, so he can only be met at night, and his door is reached through the balcony rather than the street-level entrance. He also needs at least four Time Segments left in the current night before he will set out, otherwise he tells you to come back another day.
Once you agree to help, he leads you over the rooftops to the house where his friends Eli and Devora died. Focus Mode (L2 or LT) is what makes the evidence in the building readable, and you will want it on for most of the search.

How to complete “Find out what Eli’s key opens”

What is inside the chest
| Item | Use |
|---|---|
| Lump of Silver | Sells to the Silver Trader in Svartrau City for Denarius |
| Silver Cross | Also sells to the Silver Trader for Denarius |
The silver is the point of the objective in story terms. The valuables were still in the house, which rules out a simple robbery and pushes the investigation toward Simeon.
Note: The house is stuffed with minor pickups across all three levels, including garlic, apples, carrots, onions, turnips, bread and a meat pie on the shelves and tables. None of it is required for the objective, but it is free food if you are low on consumables.

How to confirm the objective is done
Opening the chest ticks off “Find out what Eli’s key opens” and the tracker rolls over to “Share your findings with Vicho.” The Lump of Silver and Silver Cross appear in your inventory at the same moment, which is the fastest way to confirm the interaction registered rather than just being prompted.

From there, step outside. Vicho is being hassled by guards, and how that plays out depends on your Infamy. At lower Infamy you can talk them down; at higher Infamy they recognise you and attack on sight. Once they are dealt with, follow him around the back of the house and report what the chest told you.
Why the objective won’t complete
- You have not inspected Eli’s body yet. The chest cannot be opened without the Jeweller’s Key, and the key only drops from that inspection in the basement.
- You are searching the wrong floor. The container is on the ground floor, not in the basement where the key was found and not in the upstairs bedrooms.
- The shelf is hiding it. The box is small and sits at floor level behind a shelf at the rear of the stairs, so it is easy to miss from a standing camera angle.
- Focus Mode is off. Interactive evidence in the house, including the bodies, is far harder to spot without it highlighted.
Wrapping up the key is the halfway mark of the jeweller’s house segment, and the letter from Devora’s body plus the untouched silver are what send Vicho to Simeon’s door next. Grab both before you leave, because the house is not a location you are meant to keep coming back to.
