The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Investigate the Doctor’s Shed and House

Where the house key hides, which clues matter, and how to close out this stage of A Study in Crimson.

Where the house key hides, which clues matter, and how to close out this stage of A Study in Crimson.

Halfway through A Study in Crimson, Vicho leads you to Doctor Simeon’s yard and then leaves you to do the actual detective work. The front door of the house is locked, the shed looks like a dead end, and the quest tracker only tells you to use Focus Mode. The sequence is short once you know what you’re looking for, and it hinges on a single key hidden in the shed.

Quick answer: Open the shed, inspect the table and take the Doctor’s House key from the stack of books on the left, unlock the front door with it, then collect the Patient Notes downstairs and the Property Deed upstairs. Talk to Vicho once the tracker reads “Talk to Vicho when you’re ready to leave.”

Where the doctor’s house fits in A Study in Crimson

This is the second of three investigation sites in Vicho’s questline. It only becomes available after you’ve searched the jeweller’s house, found out how Devora and Eli died, and shared those findings with Vicho on the rooftop behind the building. He then walks you directly to the doctor’s yard, and the objective updates to “Investigate the doctor’s shed using Focus Mode.”

Vicho is a Vrakhir, so the whole questline runs at night, and each stage consumes time segments. Focus Mode is held on L2/LT and highlights every interactive object in yellow, which is the only reliable way to spot the smaller items scattered around both buildings.

Doctor’s shed: Where to find the Doctor’s House key

Hold Focus Mode in the yard to pick out the shed door, which sits next to the locked house. Interact with it to unlock and step inside.
Inspect the desk. You can read Doctor Simeon’s Research Notes here, and the plague masks hanging nearby are worth a look for context on what Simeon was doing.
Interact with the stack of books on the left side of the table. The Doctor’s House key is behind them, and it’s easy to miss because the books read as scenery until Focus Mode highlights them.
Before you leave, inspect the corpse in the shed and loot the surrounding containers. The pickups here include Denarius, a Vitality Balm, a Potent Regenerative Soluble, and a Golden Chalice.

Doctor’s house: Patient Notes, Medical Journal, and Property Deed

Walk back to the front door of the house and interact with it. The key opens it automatically, and the objective flips to “Search for clues using Focus Mode.” Simeon isn’t home.

Sweep the ground floor in Focus Mode and take the Patient Notes from the desk. Several other objects light up down here and can be inspected, but they’re flavour rather than requirements.

Head upstairs. There’s a diploma on the wall, and Doctor Simeon’s Medical Journal is buried in a pile of dirty clothes.
Take the Property Deed from the desk upstairs. This is the item the quest actually needs. It names a warehouse Simeon bought from the blacksmith Costin, which becomes the next location.

How to confirm the investigation is complete

The objective text is your confirmation. Once the Property Deed is in hand, the tracker changes to “Talk to Vicho when you’re ready to leave.” Unlock the back door on your way out and speak to Vicho to move on. The prompt is a deliberate pause, so you can keep poking around the house for loot and readable documents before you trigger it.

Note: Talking to Vicho ends the search at this location. If you want the Medical Journal or the Patient Notes for the full picture of what Simeon was up to, grab them first.

Why the objective won’t advance

  • You inspected the shed table but never interacted with the stack of books on its left side. Inspecting the desk alone does not hand you the key.
  • You’re trying the front door without the Doctor’s House key. There is no lockpick or alternate entry here, so the shed has to come first.
  • You searched the ground floor only. The Property Deed is upstairs, and the prompt to leave won’t appear until you take it.

After the conversation, Vicho heads for the warehouse named on the deed. Both ground-floor doors there are locked, so the way in is a balcony on the third floor around the back, and the basement is where you find Simeon in his new form.
