Ban (Purgatory) is the rare case of a Mythic that pays for itself twice. He buffs a carry with temporary food effects and inflates your income at the same time, which is exactly what a thin early roster needs. He is also reachable without a lucky summon, since the base unit drops from a raid rather than a banner.

Quick answer: Run Fairy Forest – Act 3 on Hard until Ban drops, then evolve him with 18 Azure Remnants, 7 Violet Remnants, 5 Radiant Remnants, 1 Prismatic Remnant, and The Fountain of Youth, which costs 300 Spirit Petals in the Raid Shop.

What Ban (Purgatory) does in a run

The evolved form is a Mythic ground unit with two passives that do completely different jobs. The Sin of Greed grants 50% extra income from every enemy Ban personally kills, so he works as an off-farm slot alongside a dedicated economy unit. An Unexpected Chef prepares a random meal at the start of each wave, and you choose which unit gets served.

Meals are temporary and vary in strength, so the value of a wave depends on what he cooks. The buffs land on a single target of your choice, which almost always means your highest-damage carry.

MealEffectDuration
Whole Chicken+20% Damage25 seconds
Spicy Curry-20% Cooldown25 seconds
Fresh Fish+25% Range25 seconds
Hearty Soup+35% Crit Chance25 seconds
Champion’s Steak+35% Damage, -15% Cooldown40 seconds
Master Chef Sushi+30% Damage, -25% Cooldown, +25% Range, +40% Crit Chance60 seconds

Once a unit eats, it cannot be fed again for one minute. Feeding the same carry every wave is therefore not possible, so plan meals around boss waves or heavy pushes rather than serving the moment a dish appears.

Where Ban drops: Fairy Forest – Act 3 on Hard

Ban is a rare reward from the Fairy Forest raid, Act 3, played on Hard difficulty. Raids open up at player level 10, so clear story stages on Normal and Hard first if the mode is still locked. Any team that can survive the raid boss, Cheknia, is enough — you are farming the drop, not a score.

The drop is not guaranteed on a clear, and it is normal to need many completions before he appears. Turning on Auto Skip Waves and Auto Start, then raising the game speed, cuts the time per attempt considerably. Every finished run also pays Spirit Petals, which you need for the evolution item anyway, so nothing is wasted while you wait.

Evolution materials for Ban (Purgatory)

The recipe mixes generic Remnants with one unit-specific item. Remnants come from Challenges, which refresh daily, so start banking them before Ban even drops.

How to evolve Ban into Ban (Purgatory)

Keep running Fairy Forest – Act 3 on Hard until Ban lands in your inventory. He appears as a Mythic ground unit in the Units menu once the drop registers.
Open the Units screen, select Ban, and check his evolution tab to confirm which Remnants you are still short on. This is also where you feed duplicate units to level him, so bring him up before spending materials.

Go to the Raid Shop, switch to the Spirit Petals tab, and buy The Fountain of Youth for 300 Spirit Petals. This item exists only for Ban’s recipe, so there is no reason to save the currency for anything else first.

Head to the Evolve area in the lobby, pick Ban from the list, and confirm the evolution. His card updates to Ban (Purgatory) with the two new passives attached, which is your confirmation that it worked.

Note: roll stats before you evolve rather than after. Range and Cooldown are the rolls that matter most here, since both extend how much of the map his kills and meals can reach.

Placement limits and deployment cost

Ban (Purgatory) has a placement limit of 1 and a base cost of 550 Yen. That single-copy cap means he is a utility slot, not a wall of bodies, and the cost is high enough that placing him first can slow down an early economy. Drop your farm unit first, then bring him in once the money is flowing.

Because his income bonus only triggers on kills he makes himself, position matters. Put him where enemies actually die rather than at the very front of the lane, and his contribution to the economy stays consistent.

Traits stack on top of that. Ascendant grants +35% Boss Damage, +10% Damage, and +10% Range, which is a fine outcome for a support that still swings at things. Stride is the roll most players target for him.

One unit you should never feed

Tojei carries the Heavenly Restriction passive, which blocks all incoming buffs in exchange for 25% Damage, 35% Physical Penetration, and 45% Crit Chance. Serving him a meal does nothing. If you run Tojei, treat him as a self-sufficient damage slot and route every dish to a different carry.

Everything else on a standard board is fair game. Boss-focused units gain the most from Champion’s Steak and Master Chef Sushi, since those windows are long enough to cover a full boss phase.

Where he performs best after evolving

Longer modes reward him most, because both passives compound over time. Infinite runs give him dozens of waves to cook in and a steady stream of kills to skim income from, which is where the 50% bonus turns into real upgrade money.

For a new account, the appeal is straightforward. He does not require a rare summon, he shores up two weaknesses at once, and the only real cost is raid attempts you would be running anyway for Spirit Petals and rerolls. Pair him with a dedicated farm unit and a single strong damage dealer, and one slot handles both the economy and the buffs while the rest of the roster catches up.
