Fisch: How to Unlock the Rod Wish on Skycrest Island

Complete five trials from a single Ancient Idol to open the Limited Time Wish and start a vaulted rod's quest.

Complete five trials from a single Ancient Idol to open the Limited Time Wish and start a vaulted rod’s quest.

The Limited Time Wish on Skycrest Island is the closest thing Fisch has to a second chance at rods that were pulled from the game. You do not buy it, roll for it, or wait for a holiday window. You earn it by finishing one specific chain of trials, and the game will not let you skip a single step of it.

Quick answer: Travel to Skycrest Island, speak to the Limited Time Wish NPC (Ryusel), then complete all five trials from one single Ancient Idol. Finishing that fifth trial is the trigger that opens the rod list.

What the rod wish actually gives you

A wish does not drop the rod into your inventory. It starts that rod’s original questline, because almost everything on the list has been vaulted by the developers. If you pick Polaris Serenade, for example, you still have to work through Nick’s requests, which include bringing him a Serene String, a Spectral Serpent, and 50,000,000 C$.

That also explains a limitation people run into. Rods that never had a questline attached to them, like Nates Blade, cannot be requested at all. There is nothing for the wish to unlock.

How to reach Skycrest Island and the wish NPC

Load into Fisch and head to Moosewood at (350, 135, 250). Next to the leaderboard you will find a large pink clam teleporter that sends you to the Fischfest 2 island. If you have already filled 50% of the Fischfest 2 Bestiary, your Magic Conch works as a shortcut instead.
Talk to the Shipwright on the festival island and take a boat out. You are looking for the vertical waterfall at (-25700, 2591, -4712), the one that climbs upward instead of falling.

Swim into the waterfall and ride it to the top to surface on Skycrest Island. Once you are up there, walk toward the left side of the island to find the Wish for Limited Rod NPC at (-26331, 3150, -4459).
Speak to him. He hands you the quest Wish of the Sky: The One Who Listens, with a single objective, “Complete any Ancient Idol’s fifth trial (0/1)”. Until that ticks over, every conversation ends with the same line: “The fifth trial is still unanswered. Return when it is done.”

The one-idol rule for Ancient Idol trials

Seven Ancient Idols sit around Skycrest Island: Hayate, Ebisu, Fudo, Nagomi, Goriki, Shunsoku, and Amanojaku. They look like boulders, and each one hands out its own chain of five trials in order.

The important part is that progress does not pool. Doing two trials at one idol and three at another leaves you at zero. Pick a single idol and finish all five of its trials from start to end.

Ancient IdolExample trial from its chain
NagomiInteract with a Companion 10 times
FudoHold a catch minigame against a Common fish for 60+ seconds
EbisuObtain a Sparkling Aphrodite Anthias or Rose-Veiled Fairy Wrasse
ShunsokuDirectly catch an Electric or Electrified Northern Pike
GorikiDirectly catch 15 fish with -40% or less Progress Speed
AmanojakuCatch 10 fish at any active hunt

Difficulty swings hard between chains. Some idols ask for things like catching a Wyvern in under 20 seconds, holding maximum Hang Glider velocity for five seconds, landing a Sailfish during Windy weather, or slashing a fish 100 times. Read the full chain before you commit.

The fastest chain: Nagomi’s five trials

Nagomi, at (-26193, 3083, -4550), is the gentlest of the seven. Nothing in the chain is mechanically hard, though the fourth and fifth trials eat time.

Accept the “Don’t Move” trial and stand completely still for 60 seconds. Your camera counts as movement too, so let go of the mouse entirely until the timer clears.
Equip a companion from your Satchel, stand in open ground, and press E to pet it 10 times. This one takes under a minute.
Catch 20 Common, Uncommon, or Unusual fish. Any mid-tier rod such as the Rod of Depths, Fortune, or Fungal works fine, and Rapid Catcher Bait speeds it up.
Buy 100 Crab Cages from the Moosewood Merchant and line them along the Moosewood Dock coast. Wait roughly 10 minutes, then claim everything to bank all 100 crab cage catches at once.
Catch one Grandpa Horseshoe Crab with a crab cage at the Desolate Deep. It is a secret rarity, so bring a strong cage like the Relic Crab Cage from Sunken Reliquary or the Gold Crab Cage from Tidefall Castle, load Golden Shrimp Bait, and fish in Clear or Rain weather during Spring.
Turning in a completed Ancient Idol trial to move on to the next one in the chain
Each finished trial has to be handed back to the same idol before the next one appears.

How to confirm the wish unlocked

Turn each trial back in at the idol as you finish it, otherwise the next one never appears. After the fifth is accepted, the Wish of the Sky objective updates to complete, and returning to Ryusel replaces his “fifth trial is still unanswered” line with the rod selection menu.

If the menu still refuses to open, the cause is almost always one of two things. Either a trial was completed but never handed in, or the five trials were spread across different idols instead of one.

Rods you can request from the wish

Once the menu opens, these are the limited-time rods available to wish for:

  • Acidgrinder
  • Castbound
  • Cinderstring
  • Eardrum
  • Fallen Snowblade
  • Lullaby
  • MiguRod
  • Noiseform
  • Nocturne
  • Part
  • Remembrance
  • Soulreaper
  • Steampunk Rod
  • Test Rod
  • Wingkeeper
  • Wingripper

The list you see can be shorter than someone else’s, since rods already sitting in your inventory drop out of the options. Read the whole thing before confirming, because the wish only saves you the hunt for the rod, not the quest behind it.

Choosing a vaulted rod from the Limited Time Wish selection on Skycrest Island

Treat the trial chain as the real cost here. Picking Nagomi and grinding through crab cages for an afternoon is a far cheaper route to a vaulted rod than waiting for the next event that brings it back on its own.
