“Ask around to learn more about Andrei” is an optional objective inside The Heart Wants What It Wants, the quest where Coen has to acquire Andrei’s memento for Ocha. It sits alongside the tracked objective “Find a way into Andrei’s hideout”, and it is cleared by two specific street conversations rather than by exploring or looting.

Quick answer: Pay the Beggar in Svartrog City 50 Denarius, then find Katja, tell her you are Nora’s friend, and ask for advice about Andrei. Both conversations together clear the optional objective and add “Speak to the butcher” to the quest.

Beggar50 DenariusA silver coin is what gets you an audience at the butcher’s shop, which fronts Andrei’s hideout. Adds the optional objective “Speak to the butcher”.
KatjaFreeAndrei has a very short temper and needs to be treated with respect during the meeting.

Neither talk requires a fight, and neither one costs you anything beyond the coins handed to the Beggar. The order does not matter — the objective only closes once both have been done.

Where to find the Beggar and Katja in Svartrog City

Both NPCs are out on the streets of Svartrog City, near the butcher’s stall area rather than inside any building. Open the map and track “Find a way into Andrei’s hideout” to orient yourself, then switch to Focus Mode while walking the street. The vision effect tags the interactable townspeople, and the prompts you are looking for read “Talk with Beggar” and “Talk with Katja”.

Katja is marked on the map once the objective is active, so if Focus Mode does not pick her up on your first pass, check the map again and walk to her marker.

Beggar dialogue: pay 50 Denarius for the silver coin hint

Approach the Beggar sitting on the street and start the conversation. He will not volunteer anything useful until money changes hands.
Choose “Here, a few coins. (50)” instead of “I’m not paying you.” The 50 Denarius is deducted immediately, so make sure you have the coin on you before you start talking.

Hear him out. He explains that a silver coin is the price of entry to the butcher’s shop, which is where Andrei actually operates. The quest log then updates with the optional objective “Speak to the butcher”.

Katja dialogue: mention Nora, then ask about Andrei

Walk over to Katja and open the conversation. She is guarded at first, and the interaction prompt may show as a generic townwoman until you are close enough.

Pick “I’m Nora’s friend. I’m helping her out with a problem.” Naming Nora is what makes Katja willing to talk about the crime boss at all.
Follow up with “I’d like to ask about Andrei, if you don’t mind.” and then “Any advice about Andrei?” That is the line that produces the useful detail — Andrei’s temper is extremely short, and he expects to be treated with respect.

Close the exchange with “Appreciate it.” once she has said her piece.

How to confirm the objective is complete

You get an on-screen quest update notification after each conversation. Open the journal and look at The Heart Wants What It Wants entry — “(Optional) Ask around to learn more about Andrei” should be resolved, with “(Optional) Speak to the butcher” now listed under the main “Acquire Andrei’s memento” objective.

If the update has not fired, the usual reason is that only one of the two NPCs has been spoken to, or that the Beggar was refused payment. Talking to him again and choosing the 50-coin option resumes the conversation.

What the information is worth

The Beggar’s tip is the practical half. Once you know a silver item is the entry fee, you can speak to the butcher with silver in your inventory and be shown up to Andrei. Katja’s warning is the social half — Andrei’s meeting involves pointed questions, and hostile replies push the scene toward a fight.

Note: the objective is genuinely optional. The hideout can also be reached at night by climbing the balcony with vampiric movement. Do not attempt that climb during the day, as the NPC routines inside the building can break and stall the quest.

Clearing both conversations costs one street loop and 50 Denarius, and it leaves you walking into Andrei’s room knowing exactly how much patience he has. That is the whole value of asking around here — the quest still moves forward without it, but the meeting goes far more smoothly with it.
