Pets in Grand Blue are functional companions, not decorations. They fight alongside you, gain experience, physically grow as they level, and unlock their own combat skills. There are four of them right now, and only one doubles as a mount.
Quick answer: Buy the Small Dog from the cage in Clown Town for 10,000 Gold if you want a guaranteed pet immediately. Everything else is a rare drop — Soro at 2% from the First Marine Base in Anchor Town, Manok at 0.5% from chickens, and Lioni at 0.25% from the Circus Lion in the center of Clown Town, which is the only pet you can ride.
All Grand Blue pets and mounts: locations and drop rates
| Pet | Where to get it | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Soro | First Marine Base, Anchor Town — drops from Soro next to the Blonde Goblin mini-boss | 2% |
| Small Dog | Clown Town — bought from a cage for 10,000 Gold | Guaranteed |
| Lioni (Circus Lion) | Center of Clown Town, near the Beast Tamer NPC | 0.25% |
| Manok (chicken) | Anchor Town farm, or the Beast Wreckage area in Maple Village | 0.5% |
Strength order runs Lioni first, Soro second, Small Dog in the middle, and Manok last. Lioni is the only rideable one.

If you would rather not gamble on drop rates, the Small Dog costs 10,000 Gold and involves no combat at all. It sits in a display cage in Clown Town, a short walk along the road from the Circus Lion’s spawn point.

Lioni the Circus Lion: the only mount in the game
The Circus Lion spawns in the middle of Clown Town, right by the Beast Tamer NPC. Kill it and you have a 0.25% shot at Lioni, the strongest pet currently available and the one you can actually climb on and ride instead of just walking beside.

That drop rate sounds punishing, and it is, but the respawn cycle softens it. The lion comes back roughly 180 seconds after it dies, so you can park yourself in the town circle and repeat the fight over and over without traveling anywhere.
Note: the mount’s movement speed is slow at the moment. Riding Lioni is a novelty and a status symbol more than a travel upgrade, at least until the speed gets tuned.
Soro and Manok: the farmable drops
Soro is a coyote-type pet found at the First Marine Base in Anchor Town, standing next to the Blonde Goblin mini-boss. The catch is that the Blonde Goblin spawns on a cycle rather than sitting there permanently, so if the area looks empty, you are early and need to wait it out. At 2%, Soro has the friendliest odds of any drop-based pet, and it is the second strongest pet overall.
Manok, the chicken, is the easiest target and the least rewarding prize. Chickens wander the farm plots around Anchor Town, and there is a bigger cluster in the Beast Wreckage area of Maple Village with three separate spawn points. The drop rate is 0.5%, but Manok is widely considered the weakest pet because it eats a skill slot without contributing much in a fight.
Skill slot cost: what a pet takes from you
Here is the part people miss until it is too late. Every pet consumes ability slots from the same pool your own character’s skills draw from. Weaker pets are cheap — Manok can cost as little as a single slot — while stronger ones like Soro can run three or more.
So the question is not simply which pet is strongest. It is whether the pet’s damage output is worth the abilities you give up to field it.
Leveling pets with Pet Food and combat
Pet Food is sold in Clown Town and works on any pet you own, not one specific species. Feeding it is the fastest way to push levels early, and you will see the pet visibly grow as it climbs — a level 1 pet barely reaches your character’s ankle.

Pet Food caps out at level 100. Beyond that, the only way to keep leveling is to send the pet into real fights against NPCs. Pet skills follow the same logic as your own abilities — new ones unlock at set levels, often with a choice between buff options, and a skill only gains mastery by being used repeatedly in combat.

Pet states and checking pet stats
Once a pet is named and equipped, it spawns beside your character and follows you, with its health bar, current state, experience bar, and level shown above it. You can also click its name on the left side of the screen to open its menu, then click again for extra options including a Details button. Details lists stats such as health and strength alongside every unlocked skill.
Three behavior states are available:
| State | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Aggressive | Attacks any NPC or non-party player on sight |
| Neutral | Only fights back after you or the pet is hit |
| Passive | Never retaliates, even under attack |
Aggressive is the setting to use if you want fast skill mastery, since the pet picks its own fights and accumulates experience without you starting every encounter.
The Celestial race mount
Rolling the Celestial race unlocks an exclusive mount that no other race can obtain. Celestial is rare enough that most players will never see it, which is why the four pets above remain the practical options.
If you are choosing where to spend your time, Soro is the realistic pick — a 2% drop is grindable in an afternoon, and it is the second strongest pet in the game. Lioni is a long-odds project worth camping only if you specifically want something to ride. And if drops are not going your way at all, 10,000 Gold and a walk through Clown Town gets you a pet with no dice rolls involved.
