The second challenge in Chapter 1, The Road to Haddonfield, is one of the fastest in the whole campaign, and it is easy to skip past without realizing it. It asks for a specific input rather than a kill, so players who open the chapter by grabbing and executing both bikers immediately can finish the fight with the challenge still unticked.
Quick answer: Walk up to either biker standing outside the Rabbit in Red Lounge at the start of Chapter 1 and press the shove prompt to stumble him off balance. The challenge completes the moment he loses his footing.
What Challenge 2 requires in Chapter 1
The challenge text reads “Use shove to stumble a Biker off balance.” Two conditions matter. The target has to be a Biker, meaning one of the gang members, not a resident or the bartender. And the stumble has to come from the shove input specifically, which is the same shove Civilians use in multiplayer.
Shoving does not kill anyone. It knocks the target’s balance out and sets up a follow-up grab or execution, which is why it is worth doing anyway during the opening scuffle.
How to shove a biker off balance outside the Rabbit in Red
One of the bikers throws a glass bottle during the confrontation, and the resulting broken beer bottle can be picked up near the entrance with the interact key. A tutorial panel for sharp melee weapons pops up the first time you get near it. Picking it up is useful for the fight, but the bottle is a weapon kill, not a shove, so it will not satisfy the second challenge on its own.

Two challenges from the same opening fight
The pair of bikers on the road are the only ones you meet before the bar, and they cover two of the six challenges if you handle them in the right order.
| Challenge | What to do outside the bar |
|---|---|
| 2 – Shove a Biker off balance | Shove either biker before you commit to a grab or a weapon attack. |
| 4 – Context execution on a Biker | Grab the second biker, walk him to a wall and perform the head slam. |
Tip: do the shove first. If you open with the grab and execute both bikers straight away, everyone outside is dead and you have to restart the chapter for the shove.
How to confirm the challenge completed
A challenge completion notice appears on screen once the biker stumbles. After both bikers outside are dealt with, the objective in the corner switches from “KILL THE BIKERS” to “ENTER THE RABBIT IN RED”, which is your cue that the road section is over and anything you still needed from it is gone.
Completion pop-ups do not always land immediately. Some challenges have been reported as not flagging complete during early access even when the conditions were met, so check the chapter’s challenge list from the menu rather than trusting the on-screen notification alone.
Why the shove challenge does not trigger
- You used the grab instead of the shove. The grab leads into an execution and never produces the stumble the challenge looks for.
- You shoved a resident or the bartender rather than a Biker. Only gang members count.
- Both bikers outside are already dead. Once you go through the door into the Rabbit in Red, the road encounter is behind you and the chapter has to be replayed.
Retrying the chapter is cheap here. The opening runs about a minute before you reach the bikers, so a failed attempt costs almost nothing, and Chapter 1’s other challenges — the broken pool cue kill, the thrown cleaver, killing everyone inside the bar, and taking down three residents — can all be spread across separate runs rather than crammed into one.
