Protocol Droids are the one group of droids in Droid Tycoon you cannot buy, fuse, or pull off the conveyor. They come from World Missions, arrive at your base as blueprints inside a Protocol Crate, and then sit in your station slots doing something no other droid does. One of them triples credit production outright.
Quick answer: Complete a World Mission, which spawns roughly every 15 minutes, then return to your base and open the Protocol Crate to get a droid blueprint. Craft the blueprint, then place the finished droid at a production station to raise credit generation or behind a crafting table to raise crafting speed.
Which droids count as Protocol Droids
Four droids make up the rotating Protocol set, spread across rarities so there is always something worth chasing even on a weak mission run. C-3PO is also classified as a Protocol Droid, and it is the standout of the group because it triples credit production rather than adding a flat bonus.
| Droid | Rarity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TDA | Mythic | Top of the set; highest chip cost to max |
| PZ | Legendary | Second tier of the group |
| LOM | Epic | Common early pull from crates |
| SA-5 | Rare | Easiest to obtain and upgrade |
| C-3PO | Protocol | Triples credit production |
Each of these shows up in the Droidex alongside your regular collection, and each can be pushed through the same seven tiers as any other droid, from Base up through Gold, Diamond, Rainbow, Beskar, Galactic, and finally Stellar.

A World Mission becomes available about every 15 minutes and is flagged on your HUD. When one is live, leave your base, travel to the marker, and complete the objective. You keep whatever weapons and items you have unlocked from the Armory, so heavier loadouts make the combat missions much shorter.

There are four mission types in rotation. They all pay out stars and mission points, but the pacing is very different, so it is worth knowing which one you have drawn before you commit.
| Mission | What you do |
|---|---|
| Eliminate Guards | Fight through Stormtroopers guarding the objective area |
| Deliver Scrap | Use cranes to fish scrap out of the water, then hand it in |
| Defense | Grab a weapon and hold a platform against waves of droids |
| Mine Rocks | Break rocks for five minutes straight |
The mining run is the most predictable of the four. It is a flat five-minute timer against rock nodes, and with the 2x Pickaxe Level booster active your pickaxe chews through them fast enough to make the full star payout routine.

Stars, Protocol Crates, and crafting the blueprint
Every mission is scored out of four stars. The rating is not cosmetic. A higher star count pulls a higher-tier droid blueprint into your Protocol Crate, which is why a sloppy one-star clear and a clean four-star clear are not interchangeable.
If no crate is waiting at your base, the mission either was not completed or was not credited. Protocol Droids do not appear on the conveyor belt and cannot be produced through Droid Fusion, so the crate is the only delivery method.
Where to place a Protocol Droid in your base
Your base runs on three station groups, matching the three droid types: Worker, Astromech, and Battle. Protocol Droids work differently from your normal roster because the benefit depends on which kind of station you put them at.
- Production stations: A Protocol Droid placed here raises credit generation for that station. The station panel shows the effect as a Protocol Bonus line, with values scaling from around +1.2s/s on a low-tier droid up to +8.40s/s on a stronger one.
- Crafting tables: Stand a Protocol Droid behind a crafting table instead and it raises crafting speed for that table rather than income.
C-3PO is the exception you build around. Because it triples credit production, it belongs on your strongest production line rather than on a crafting table, where the multiplier would be wasted.
Tip: check the credit multiplier figure at the top of your base before and after a placement. Moving a strong Protocol Droid onto the right station is the difference between readings like 2000% and 2200%, and that is the fastest way to confirm the assignment actually registered.
Any Protocol Droid you are not using for income can also be pulled out as a companion from the Companions screen, including the option to park it in the Lounge.

Upgrading Protocol Droids to Stellar tier
Upgrades happen at the upgrade station and are paid for with upgrade chips. A LOM or SA-5 pulled at Default can be walked all the way up to Stellar, one tier at a time, and income climbs at every step with the sharpest gains near the top.
Chip costs scale hard with rarity, which matters a lot when deciding whether to push TDA or settle for a maxed PZ.
| Rarity | Chips per upgrade step |
|---|---|
| Common | 10, 25, 40, 80, 120, 180 |
| Legendary | 400, 1,200, 2,500, 6,000, 16,000, 24,000 |
| Mythic | 4,000, 8,000, 14,000, 30,000, 60,000, 90,000 |
Fully maxing a Mythic runs to roughly 206,000 chips in total, so a Mythic TDA is a long-term project rather than something you finish in one session. The Rare and Epic Protocol Droids are far cheaper and are where most players should spend chips first.
Verification is straightforward. Open the Droidex and check the tier label on the droid’s entry. If it reads Stellar, the upgrade took.

Mission points and the 800-point Nova Crystal reward
Alongside droid blueprints, World Missions feed a separate mission points counter that tracks across runs. Hit 800 mission points and you are paid 3 Nova Crystals, the premium currency normally locked behind super-rebirths and spent on permanent account-wide upgrades in the Nova Shop.

Three boosters are active during the Protocol Droids window and all three stack with this loop: 2x Pickaxe Level, 2x Craft Speed, and 2x Credits. The pickaxe boost is the one that shortens mining missions, while the craft speed boost cuts the wait on every blueprint you pull out of a crate.
The practical rhythm is simple enough. Run each World Mission as it spawns, clear it for as many of the four stars as you can manage, craft whatever blueprint the crate hands over, and push chips into the Rare and Epic Protocol Droids while saving for the Mythic. Droid Tycoon sits at island code 7865-8305-9184, and the droids you claim during the event stay in your Droidex afterwards.
