Marvel’s Wolverine: Death’s Match Walkthrough and Deathstrike Boss Fight

How to survive both phases of the Lady Deathstrike duel on Mount Haku and unlock the Struck Dead trophy.

How to survive both phases of the Lady Deathstrike duel on Mount Haku and unlock the Struck Dead trophy.

Death’s Match is the eighth mission of the Japan chapter in Marvel’s Wolverine, and it is built around one thing: a two-phase duel with Lady Deathstrike at the Mount Haku shrine. There is nothing to collect here and no side path to explore. You win the fight, you finish the mission.

Quick answer: Parry Deathstrike’s sword projectiles with L1, survive the shrine phase, then beat her on the lava platform. The Struck Dead trophy pops during the finishing cutscene.

Death’s Match mission details and collectibles

Death’s Match is a pure boss mission. If you are chasing 100 percent completion, you can put your Enhanced Senses away for this one — there are no Material Crates, Whiskey Bottles, or Nightmare Doors hidden anywhere in it.

The mission opens with a cinematic at the shrine, where Deathstrike talks about her link to The Beast and goads Logan into drawing his claws. Control returns to you inside the shrine chamber the moment the taunting stops.

Phase 1: Deathstrike inside the shrine chamber

Stay mobile as soon as the fight starts. Deathstrike throws glowing slash projectiles across the chamber, and standing still in the open is what chips your health down fastest. Keep circling her and close the gap between volleys.
Punish her recovery with claw combos. Her ranged attacks leave short gaps, so land a burst of hits and then break off instead of holding the pressure until she retaliates.
Learn the parry. A short way into the fight, an on-screen prompt tells you to tap L1 to parry Deathstrike’s sword projectiles. Timing that tap as the projectile reaches you is far more reliable than trying to sprint out of its path.

Alternate between parrying her projectiles and dodging her close-range swings. Trying to solve the whole phase with dodges leaves you constantly out of position when she re-engages.

Drain her first health bar and a cinematic takes over. The two clash blades, Deathstrike pins Logan against a bone-covered pillar, and he tears himself loose, shoves her sarcophagus into the fiery pit below and dives in after it.

Phase 2: The lava platform fight

Logan lands charred in a magma-filled cavern while Deathstrike taunts him from across the molten pool. The arena for the second half is a rocky platform ringed by lava, which means a lot less room to retreat than the shrine gave you.

Watch for her leaping slashes. She covers the platform in a single jump, so dodge sideways as she commits rather than backing toward the edge.
Answer each dodge with berserker strikes. The platform is small enough that she is always within reach, and heavy damage right after a whiffed leap is the cleanest way to carve through this phase.
Keep parrying. She still throws sword projectiles here, and the same L1 tap works, so you do not need to change how you handle her ranged pressure just because the ground did.

How the fight ends and how to confirm the Struck Dead trophy

The finish is a cutscene, not a quick-time gauntlet. Deathstrike drives her blades through Wolverine’s chest, he overpowers her anyway, severs her cybernetic arm, kicks her into the open sarcophagus and seals her inside as she decays.

Your confirmation arrives right there. The Struck Dead trophy notification appears in the corner of the screen as Logan pushes the sarcophagus into the molten lava and destroys it outright. If you do not see that notification, the fight has not resolved yet.

The Essex and Sabretooth encounter after the boss

There is no lull once Deathstrike is gone. Essex drifts down from above and Sabretooth slams into the cavern beside him, and the two press a badly beaten Logan about what Essex is really planning.

Jean Grey arrives to even the odds. Sabretooth charges straight at her, Wolverine cuts him off and takes his right arm off at the shoulder, and Jean answers with telekinetic bursts. This plays out in cutscene, so there is nothing to fail.

Essex leaves on his own terms. After a warning aimed at Logan and Jean, he sets off an energy blast that brings the cave entrance down in rubble, then tends to Sabretooth outside as the pair withdraw.

That collapse closes out Death’s Match and rolls you into Sinister Tidings, the last mission of the Japan chapter. Unlike this fight, that one does hide a Nightmare Door, so it is worth switching your collectible habits back on before you get moving again.
