Every crate, bottle and Nightmare Door in Mission 17, in the order you pass them through Japan.

Mission 17, Death Comes to Death, drops Logan into Japan on the hunt for the Helix Engine, and the chapter hides its pickups in exactly the places you would sprint past while chasing the objective marker. The good news is that the sweep is short, and nothing here locks you out.

Quick answer: Death Comes to Death holds five collectibles — three Material Crates, one Whisky Bottle (Hand of God) and one Nightmare Door (Rockbottom Blues). None of them are permanently missable.

Death Comes to Death collectible list

The chapter has no unlockable suits, so the five pickups below are the entire completion checklist for Mission 17.

3Material CratePipe room crateLocate the Helix Engine

The pause-menu tracker is the authority on your chapter total. If it still shows a crate outstanding after these three, double back through the yard and the storage room before you trigger the next story transition.

Where to find each Mission 17 pickup

Work top to bottom rather than sweeping backwards. Each stop sits a few steps off the critical path, and the mission keeps moving forward through fights and traversal sections that are awkward to retrace mid-chapter.

At the very start of the mission, during the objective to reach Harada Garden Tower, do not jump down yet. Head left along the rooftop and squeeze in behind the metal ventilation units, where the first Material Crate is waiting for +50 Materials.
During the objective to find The Hand discussing Jean, clear the early fight inside the restaurant, then vault the bar counter and push through the back storage area. Climb up to the elevated room to pick up the Hand of God Whisky Bottle. Enhanced Senses paints a blue scent trail when a bottle is close, so use it if you lose track of the route.

Once the objective switches to locating the Helix Engine, follow the stairwell down past the red number 1 and walk through the open security gates into the fenced maintenance corridor. Turn right as you step into the pipe room and duck under the pipework for the second Material Crate.

Stay in the same underground pipe system and look for the purple glow. Follow the glowing pipes and roots until they lead you to the Facility Underground Nightmare Door, then interact with the rift to start the Rockbottom Blues trial. The door only counts once you enter the trial.

Later, while tracking down the Helix Engine, the drag marks lead you to an elevator. Before you step inside, check the corner on the right next to the electrical cabinet for the final Material Crate and another +50 Materials.

Rockbottom Blues trial objective and rewards

Rockbottom Blues is a traversal challenge rather than a fight. The objective is simply to reach the exit, but the jumping and climbing course is timed, and your medal tier depends on how quickly you get there. A clean run in roughly 44 seconds is enough for the Adamantium ranking.

Finish the course and you drop back out at the door, where slicing through the purple roots reveals the memory tied to the trial — a wooden bird carving.

What these collectibles feed into

The three types count toward separate progression tracks, which is why grabbing them during a story run saves work later:

  • Material Crates supply the resources for crafting standard suits, which is how Logan’s maximum health goes up.
  • Whisky Bottles contribute to Adaptation progression.
  • Nightmare Doors feed the Pathways of the Mind and Repressed Memories goals.
  • The campaign contains 102 collectibles in total: 68 Material Crates, 20 Whisky Bottles and 14 Nightmare Doors.

Returning to Mission 17 with Mission Replay

Nothing in Death Comes to Death is lost if you blow past it. Once Mission Replay unlocks at the Nightmare Cabin, use the bed to jump back into Mission 17. Anything you already picked up stays collected, so you only need to hunt whatever the tracker still flags as missing.

Open the tracker before you replay, note which type is short, and quit out as soon as that counter updates rather than replaying the whole chapter.

You know Mission 17 is done when the chapter tracker reads three Material Crates, one Whisky Bottle and one Nightmare Door. Crates confirm with a Materials pop-up when opened, the bottle registers as a pickup, and the door only ticks over after you have entered Rockbottom Blues — so wait for each confirmation before you follow the marker onward.
