World of Warcraft: Bugged Quest Guide for Enchanted Skyhoppers

Where to pick up Bugged in Zephras, why half your Skyhopper kills don't count, and how to finish the objective fast.

Where to pick up Bugged in Zephras, why half your Skyhopper kills don’t count, and how to finish the objective fast.

The quest called Bugged lives up to its name in a way that trips up a lot of players: the enemies you need to kill don’t exist as a separate, clearly labeled target. You’re sent into Zephras to exterminate Enchanted Skyhoppers, but every hostile critter in the village is just called a Skyhopper. The enchanted ones are hiding among them, and the only way to tell is to kill one and watch the counter.

Quick answer: Kill ordinary Skyhoppers around Zephras in The Skyborn. Roughly every other kill reveals an Enchanted Skyhopper and ticks the objective up by one. Keep killing until the counter fills.

Valennia Stormfist hands out Bugged from inside one of Zephras’ elevated treehouse buildings. Open your map of The Skyborn and you’ll see a blue quest circle drawn around the village itself, which is the entire search area. Everything you need is inside that circle, so there’s no travel involved once you’ve accepted it.

The objective counter isn’t the same for everyone. It has shown up as six kills and as eight kills, so read your own quest tracker rather than assuming a number. The method is identical either way.

Zephras also hands out The Supreme Magister, The Fate of a Loved One, and Aid For The Refugees. Grab them on the same trip so you’re not walking back up the treehouse stairs twice.

Why some Skyhopper kills don’t count

Enchanted Skyhoppers are disguised. They share the same model and the same nameplate as the ordinary Skyhoppers wandering around the village, so you cannot pick them out before you attack. Targeting, mouseover tooltips, and nameplates all show the same thing.

The reveal happens on death. When you kill a Skyhopper, there’s roughly a 50 percent chance it turns out to have been enchanted, which pops the on-screen message “Enchanted Skyhopper Exterminated” and advances your count. The other half of the time, nothing happens and you simply move to the next one. A kill that doesn’t register is normal behavior here, not a broken quest.

Because of that coin flip, expect to kill noticeably more Skyhoppers than your objective number. That’s fine, since they die fast.

Skyhopper farming route through Zephras

Skyhoppers respawn thickly around the wooden bridge, the cobblestone paths, and the buildings in the middle of the village. A single loop through Zephras is usually enough. They also have very low health, so a low-level character with starter gear can clear them without stopping to eat or drink.

Accept Bugged from Valennia Stormfist inside the raised treehouse. Take the other Zephras quests while the dialogue is open.
Walk out onto the wooden balcony and jump down to the village floor instead of retracing the path. It’s a short drop and puts you next to the first cluster of Skyhoppers.

Follow the cobblestone path and the grass beside it, pulling Skyhoppers one at a time. Keep an eye on the yellow objective text on the right side of the screen to see which kills counted.

Check the raised wooden platforms along the route. Skyhoppers sit on them and are easy to miss if you stay on ground level.

Head into the open building in the village center. Several Skyhoppers spawn inside alongside the Zephras Citizen NPCs, and it’s the densest spot on the loop.

Take the upper wooden walkway on your way back out. There’s usually at least one more Skyhopper up there before you return to ground level.

Finish around the wooden bridge. Skyhoppers repopulate that area quickly, so if the counter is still short, loop the bridge and the nearby hill until it fills.

How to confirm Bugged is complete and turn it in

You’ll know the objective is done when the tracker hits its full count and an “Objective Complete” alert flashes for Enchanted Skyhopper Exterminated. The quest entry in your log stops updating at that point, and further Skyhopper kills give you nothing toward it.

Run back up the stone path and into the elevated treehouse, talk to Valennia Stormfist again, and hit Complete Quest. The turn-in pays out experience and a small amount of copper, and it’s the only confirmation that the quest has actually closed out.

If you’re mid-loop and the counter seems stuck, count your dead Skyhoppers before assuming something is wrong. Three or four kills in a row producing no credit is well within the range of a coin flip, and the fix is simply to keep swinging.
