Enshrouded 1.0: Where to Get Salt at the Egerton Salt Mines

Mine the Springlands deposits with a pickaxe, beat the Shroud timer, and see every recipe that needs Salt.

Mine the Springlands deposits with a pickaxe, beat the Shroud timer, and see every recipe that needs Salt.

In Embervale, you obtain Salt by mining it with a pickaxe; it isn’t made at a crafting station. Your most dependable source is the Egerton Salt Mines, located in the Springlands within the Shroud, where pale blue-white seams run along the cave walls. A particular enemy found throughout the world provides a smaller but steady supply.

Quick answer: In the Springlands, make your way to Egerton Salt Mines after ensuring your Shroud timer is full, then mine the pale blue-white seams in the walls using any pickaxe. Each vein provides several Salt.

What you need before the run

You need a pickaxe and a full Shroud timer. Any standard pickaxe works, and the earliest one is the Scrappy Pickaxe, crafted at the Blacksmith once that survivor has a sheltered bed. It costs 8 Metal Scraps and 1 Shroud Wood.

Enshrouded: the player moves through the Shroud with the 4:54 timer running, while the Rested effect shows Sheltered and ‘Reach The Plains’ is the tracked quest.

Since the whole mine is under the Shroud, your Shroud timer starts its countdown when you reach the area. Mine in short trips and watch how much time remains. A glider makes the drop into the valley much easier, and an hourglass device in the mine can restore part of your timer along the way.

How to reach the Egerton Salt Mines in the Springlands

The mine is northwest of the Ancient Spire – Springlands, west of Braelyn Bridge, and directly north of the Ancient Vault – Alchemist. The quickest route begins at the Spire.

Fast travel to the Ancient Spire – Springlands. From the northwest balcony, jump off and open your glider to drift toward the foggy valley below.

Keep gliding down into the blue Shroud mist and land near the trees at the valley floor. Your Shroud timer begins ticking as soon as you drop into the fog.

Mine the salt and leave before the timer runs out

Inside, you will pass wooden scaffolding, minecart tracks, and narrow tunnels, with Shroud enemies scattered along the way. A torch helps you spot the deposits, which read as pale, whitish-grey or brownish crystal veins jutting from the stone.

Watch for an hourglass device on a wooden platform and interact with it to restore Shroud time. The prompt reads Restore Time, and refilling here lets you mine deeper without racing the clock.
Point your pickaxe at a vein and select Mine. Each strike awards +3 Mining XP, and each deposit yields roughly 1 to 4 Salt per piece chipped away, with larger veins returning far more. Aim for 200 to 300 Salt per trip so you are not making the journey repeatedly.

Leave with at least 90 seconds on the timer. Fast travel does not work inside the Shroud, so you must physically escape the fog first. Follow the road east, climb the left slope where the cliff flattens, then run through the Cave Passage tunnel, clearing or dodging the blue beetles inside. The cave mouth opens onto a sunlit hillside clear of fog, where fast travel becomes available again.

You know the trip worked when Salt appears in your backpack pickup list. Salt stacks up to 250 per inventory slot.

Farm Salt from Hollow Damned skeletons

If you need Salt away from the mines, Hollow Damned skeletons make a reliable alternative. A kill always gives 1 to 2 Salt, with a 100% drop chance. They appear in large groups in Hollow Halls and in smaller clusters throughout every region. Salt may also be found in locked material chests.

The Springlands holds a second marked salt mine as well, the Saline Quarry, if you want an alternative to the Egerton run.

The Hunter’s “Salt Mine Location” quest

Once you rescue the Hunter, Athalan Skree gives you the side quest “Salt Mine Location”, whose objective is Reach The Mine And Acquire Salt. The journal notes that Salt is needed to preserve fur. Visit Egerton Salt Mines and collect Salt to complete the quest, earning 150 XP along with Salt. The journal updates and the quest is marked complete as soon as you charter the location and collect the mineral.

What Salt is used for

Salt feeds into Flame Altar upgrades, leatherworking, chemistry, and cooking. These are the recipes that call for it.

StationWhat it makesSalt needed
Flame Altar (level 2 to 3)Altar upgrade10
Tanning Station10 Leather (from 10 Dried Fur + 2 Ammonia Gland)20
Drying RackDried Fur (from Animal Fur)3
Drying Rack3 Reptile Leather (from Reptile Hide)3
Laboratory5 Nitrate (from Shroud Sand, Wood Acid, Sand)1
KitchenVegetable Puree (5 Forest Beet)1

Salt also goes into other Kitchen dishes, including Cooked Rice, Flat Bread, and soups.

Salt-based materials and where they are crafted

Once you have a stock of Salt, these are the materials it unlocks, along with the station each is made at and the item level it becomes available. Use this to plan which crafting stations you need standing before a mining run.

MaterialStationItem levelStack size
Dried FurDrying Rack5250
Reptile LeatherDrying Rack13250
LeatherTanning Station18250
NitrateLaboratory25250
Water Reptile LeatherDrying Rack40250

Leather is the heaviest draw on your Salt supply, since a single batch of 10 Leather at the Tanning Station takes 20 Salt plus 10 Dried Fur and 2 Ammonia Gland, and the Dried Fur itself consumed Salt at the Drying Rack. If you plan to tan in bulk, stock a few hundred Salt before you start, which is why a single deep run through the Egerton Salt Mines is worth the Shroud risk.
