Lunatic’s Grasp is a three-rank Amber in Valor Mortis that speeds up the Ignite and Stasis you inflict on enemies. In exchange, William becomes more vulnerable to both effects. You can get your first copy in Chapter 4, deep in the Caverns, and the route takes a couple of minutes once you know where the web barriers are.
Quick answer: Rest at the Weeping Ledge lantern in the Caverns, turn left, burn through two web barriers, then drop into the large enemy-filled cavern. The red chest against the back wall holds Lunatic’s Grasp.
Where the route starts: Weeping Ledge lantern
Weeping Ledge is the second lantern you reach in Chapter 4, and it sits in the Caverns region. Rest there before you set off so you have a checkpoint close by. You need Fire Transmutation for this route because two organic web barriers block the path, and only fire clears them.

OPEN (HOLD) appears, keep the interact button pressed until the chest opens, then take Lunatic’s Grasp. How to confirm you have Lunatic’s Grasp
Open the Inventory and go to the Ambers section. Lunatic’s Grasp should appear with UPGRADE LEVEL: 1 / 3, which means you hold one copy. Having the Amber in your inventory doesn’t make it active, though. Ambers are equipped at a Lantern, so head back to Weeping Ledge or any other lantern to slot it in.

All three Lunatic’s Grasp copies and ranks
The Caverns chest is only the start. Valor Mortis places three copies of Lunatic’s Grasp, each in a chest, and every copy you pick up raises the Amber by one rank, up to the maximum of 3.
| Copy | Region | Source | Rank after pickup |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chest | 1 / 3 | |
| 2 | Chest | 2 / 3 | |
| 3 | Chest | 3 / 3 |
One of the three Lunatic’s Grasp chests is trapped, so be ready to back away quickly whenever you open one.
What Lunatic’s Grasp does
With Lunatic’s Grasp equipped, Ignite and Stasis accumulate on foes more quickly. This pairs well with Fire Transmutation, which sets targets alight and deals ongoing damage. Its upgrades also capitalize on Ignite: Brittleness, for example, makes afflicted foes more vulnerable to melee strikes.
The trade-off runs the other way. While the Amber is equipped, your own resistance to Ignite and Stasis drops, so enemies that burn or freeze you build those effects on William faster. If a fight keeps setting you on fire, swap Lunatic’s Grasp out at the nearest lantern.
