Every round of Cat Battles ends the same way. One cat is left in the pit and everyone else has been shoved, slapped, or tossed out of it. Your equipped Ability is the one tool that can swing that outcome, and you only get one slot. You can buy as many Abilities as your Coins allow and swap between them, but each fight runs on a single choice. That makes the choice worth getting right before you spend thousands of Coins on the wrong one.
Quick answer: Equip Nine Lives (2,000 Coins) or Hairball (12,000 Coins) if you are buying with Coins. Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens rank alongside them but come only in Robux bundles.

Cat Battles Abilities tier list
| Tier | Abilities |
|---|---|
| S | Shark Attack, Wind Shurikens, Hairball, Nine Lives |
| A | Fluff Up, Anchor, Hiss |
| B | Catnip, Stomp, Pounce, Dash |
The ranking is based on how much each Ability helps you win fights. That means knocking rivals out of the pit, surviving knockouts, and escaping grabs. It covers all 11 Abilities in the game as of the Alien Invasion update in October 2026.
Each Ability stays active for a short window after you trigger it, then goes on cooldown. You can use it as many times as the cooldown allows in a match. Both numbers matter. A long cooldown on a weak effect is a bad trade, while a long cooldown on an effect that ends fights is fine.

Add to Google Preferences →S tier: Shark Attack, Wind Shurikens, Hairball, and Nine Lives
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active time | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shark Attack | Robux bundle | 1.1s | 20s |
| Wind Shurikens | Robux bundle | 1.1s | 25s |
| Hairball | 12,000 Coins | 0.1s | 20s |
| Nine Lives | 2,000 Coins | 1.5s | 25s |
Shark Attack is a Mythic Ability that summons a shark. The shark plows through every cat in its path and hits them with heavy knockback. It does not need careful aim at one target, so it can clear a crowded pit in one use.
Wind Shurikens is a Mythic Ability that sends out two fans of shurikens. Each strike sends its victim into a ragdoll and propels them a considerable distance. A cat struck by a shuriken typically comes down beyond the pit. Not many other Abilities can make one hit so consistently deadly.
Hairball is the best Ability you can buy with Coins. It is Legendary and leaves a slick patch on the floor. Rivals who step on it slip and fall, which leaves them open to a grab. Your own cat can slip on it too, so drop it where opponents are moving, not where you plan to stand.
Nine Lives is the simplest Ability in the game. It revives you once per match after you are knocked out. It does not help you get eliminations, but surviving an extra knockout counts for a lot in a game where the last cat standing wins. It is also the cheapest S-tier pick by a wide margin.

A tier: Fluff Up, Anchor, and Hiss
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active time | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fluff Up | 5,000 Coins | 4s | 16s |
| Anchor | 2,000 Coins | 3s | 15s |
| Hiss | 750 Coins | 0.1s | 14s |
These three are strong when used at the right moment and much weaker when used carelessly. All three depend on timing.
Fluff Up puffs up your cat so your hits send opponents farther. It has the longest active window of any Ability. Use it in the middle of the ring, where rivals are bunched together, rather than at the edge after the fight has already thinned out.
Anchor digs your claws into the floor and makes you much harder to push. It is a defensive tool. It keeps you in the pit when someone is lining up a shove, but it does nothing to remove anyone else.
Hiss works only after you are grabbed. Trigger it and the cat holding you lets go. Used too early, it does nothing. Wait until a rival has committed to the grab, then break free.

B tier: Catnip, Stomp, Pounce, and Dash
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active time | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catnip | 5,000 Coins | 3s | 16s |
| Stomp | 2,000 Coins | 0.6s | 16s |
| Pounce | 750 Coins | 1s | 14s |
| Dash | Free | 0.3s | 6s |
Everything in this tier does something, but none of it reliably produces eliminations. Save your Coins for a higher-tier Ability instead.
Catnip refills your stamina so you can move around faster. It is the hardest B-tier Ability to justify, because it costs as much as Fluff Up.
Stomp shakes the floor around your cat. Pounce launches you at the nearest cat, which closes distance but does not knock anyone out by itself.
Dash is the Ability every player starts with. It is a quick dodge, and hits miss you while you are dashing. It has the shortest cooldown in the game, so it is a reasonable fallback until you can afford Nine Lives.

Buying and equipping Abilities in Cat Battles
Abilities are in the Inventory menu, under the Abilities tab. The tab shows the Abilities you already own next to the ones you can buy. You earn Coins by eliminating opponents, spinning the prize wheel, completing quests, and redeeming codes.
- Only one Ability can be equipped per fight.
- The Ability you have selected shows an Equipped label in the Abilities tab.
- On PC, press Q during a match to use it.
- Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens cannot be bought with Coins.
For most players, the order of purchases is simple. Buy Nine Lives first because it is cheap and keeps you in more rounds. Then save toward Hairball. Pick up Hiss or Anchor along the way if you keep losing fights to grabs or shoves. The tiers will be revisited as new Abilities are added to Cat Battles.
