Quick answer: Climb the rope ladder outside the Crimson Forest storehouse cellar’s barred gate, follow the misty path east past the clay jars, and grab it by a mossy tree root. Quick Hand Zhang also sells it for 1,040 Remnant Dust.
What Broadplate Metal does
Broadplate Metal is filed under “Weapon Upgrade Materials” in Phantom Blade Zero. Its card reads: “To judge a person, look first to their bones; to forge a blade, first know its material. As for what kind of heavy blade it should become, craftsmanship alone is not enough—it also takes a smith’s discerning eye.” The effect line reads: “Required to upgrade Two-Handed weapons to Lv. 10.”

Use Upgrade Equipment at a bell to upgrade main weapons. Through Lv. 10, each weapon type requires a different metal, and Solvent is the shared material used alongside every one.
| Weapon type | Metal up to Lv. 10 |
|---|---|
| One-Handed | |
| Dual-Wielded | |
| Two-Handed |
To check whether a weapon counts as Two-Handed, look at its card. The Sanguine Reach, for example, reads “TWO-HANDED”. The full weapons list covers the rest.

In Chapter 1’s Crimson Forest, climb the rope ladder outside the barred gate and follow the misty path east to the pickup by the mossy tree root.

The platform at the top of the ladder also connects to the plateau around the Cliffside Lodge bell, and the misty path past the pickup leads on to the Mirrorwood Entrance bell.
Buying Broadplate Metal from Quick Hand Zhang
Quick Hand Zhang‘s Crimson Forest hideout stocks 12 Broadplate Metal in its Buy tab at 1,040 Remnant Dust each. Select the item and the tab shows “HOLD Space TO PURCHASE 1040”. Broadplate Metal also appears in his stock at his hideouts in Village of Lu and Pangzhen.

| Item (Crimson Forest hideout) | Price (Remnant Dust) | Stock |
|---|---|---|
| 1,040 | 12 | |
| 1,040 | 12 | |
| 1,040 | 12 | |
| 832 | 36 | |
| 30,000 | 1 |
For a Two-Handed weapon build, also consider the Quick Hand Might accessory at that hideout. Its effect reads “Increases damage dealt with Two-Handed Weapons by 10%.”
Polished Broadplate Metal for Lv. 10 to 20
Broadplate Metal stops at Lv. 10. Past that, Two-Handed weapons need Polished Broadplate Metal, whose effect line reads “Required to upgrade Two-Handed weapons from Lv. 10-20.” Its card describes “An elongated ingot with an exceptionally smooth, lustrous surface, yet far heavier in the hand than ordinary metal or stone. Weapons forged from it tend to strike with tremendous weight and force, imposing and formidable.” Quick Hand Zhang lists it for 1,240 Remnant Dust at his Pangzhen and Meigu Village hideouts.
