How to Find Quentin and Complete The Rogues’ Camp in Gothic 1 Remake

Where the hidden cave path is, how to handle Brannok, and the choice that hands you extra lockpicks.

Where the hidden cave path is, how to handle Brannok, and the choice that hands you extra lockpicks.

The Rogues’ Camp sends you into a hidden bandit hideout tucked into the northwestern canyon, with the single goal of tracking down the rogues’ leader, Quentin, and sizing him up as a threat. The hard part is not the conversation. It is finding the concealed cave path, getting past Brannok at the door, and avoiding one mistake that can break the whole thing.

Quick answer: Cross the bridge north of the Old Camp, head north through the forest past two Snapper packs, then turn right at the small staircase into the hidden cave. Get past Brannok, walk past the cooking fire and over the waterfall bridge, and speak to Quentin at the cliff’s edge. Return to the quest giver to finish.

Who gives you The Rogues’ Camp quest

There are two ways to pick up this side quest, and the path you take depends on your faction. It usually becomes available in Chapter 3.

Faction routeQuest giverWhere to find them
Old Camp (Warder)ThorusAt the castle gate area, after finishing Joining the Warders
New CampLeeIn a guarded room on the right side of the Residential Cave

If you joined the Old Camp, Thorus only offers this after you have become a Warder. He may give you the option as early as Chapter 2, but if it has not appeared yet, push on to Chapter 3 and check again. If you did not join the Old Camp and cannot become a Warder, get the quest from Lee instead.

Note: Do not clear the camp before you have the quest. Players who kill everyone there ahead of time have found themselves unable to start or finish it, with no known fix.

Where the Rogues’ Camp is and how to reach the hidden cave

The camp sits in the northwestern canyon next to the Exchange Zone, north of the Old Camp. The route is short but dangerous, so bring solid armor, a strong weapon, and healing items, and quicksave before you fight. The Snappers along the way hit hard, and the first pack is large.

Leave the Old Camp through the north gate and cross the bridge just north of it. Continue north into the forested area.
A short way along, you will hit a group of Snappers. Clear them, then keep moving north until you meet a second, smaller pack of two Snappers near a small flight of stairs.
Do not climb the stairs. Turn right to find the cave entrance. That cave is the hidden path that leads toward the Rogues’ Camp.

Brannok at the door: kill him or take Bar the Truth

Inside the cave, you meet Brannok guarding a door. You have two ways past him, and the right call depends on how much extra content you want.

The Bar the Truth route is confirmed through the Warder chain from Thorus. If you came in via Lee from another camp, make sure you can actually reach the Old Camp castle and prison before committing to it.

How to start Bar the Truth

Avoid the aggressive lines. Insist on going through the door he guards. Pick “I’m just exploring this cave,” then “I really want to go through that door,” and finally “whatever it is, I can handle it.” That last choice starts the job that becomes Bar the Truth.

Free Arlin from the Old Camp prison

Arlin is held in the prison beneath the Old Camp castle. Freeing him is what unlocks the bonus reward, so choose to set him loose when you talk to him.

Return to the Old Camp and head into the castle past Thorus. Follow the path to the right all the way to the end.

Look left for a ladder, climb down, and pick the lock on the door at the bottom. Open the door on your left, pick the lock on the gate, and continue into the prison.
The prison is a small maze, so expect to wander before you reach Arlin’s cell. Once there, free him by picking the lock or by killing the nearby guard and taking the key he carries.
Speak with Arlin after the cell is open, then head back to Brannok at the Rogues’ Camp. You do not need to escort Arlin; he makes his own way to the camp.

Tip: Lockpick sequences depend on how much lockpick training your character has, so there is no single universal combination. If a lock is giving you trouble, kill the guard for the key instead of burning through picks.

Find Quentin inside the Rogues’ Camp

Back at Brannok, tell him what happened with Arlin to gain entry. Follow the path into an open area where rogues gather around a cooking fire. Arlin should be among them, and speaking with him there nets you 5x Lockpicks, with the promise of more if you return another day.

To reach Quentin, continue past the cooking fire, through a corridor, and over a bridge beside a waterfall. The path leads to the edge of a cliff, where Quentin sits at his own fire. Talk to him to advance the quest. Run through his full set of dialogue options to properly judge his character and threat level.

How to complete the quest and what you get

After speaking with Quentin, return to whoever gave you the quest. If you started it through the Old Camp Warder route, report back to Thorus to wrap it up and earn 1,500 XP. If you got it from Lee in the New Camp, report to him instead, where the reward may differ.

You will know it worked when your quest log marks the objective complete after the report-back conversation.

If Quentin is missing or dead

Quentin moves around the camp depending on the time of day, so he is not always at the cliff. If he is not in his usual spot, check the nearby caves, or sleep and pass some time until he returns to his seat at the cliff’s edge.

If you killed Quentin during an earlier visit, you likely cannot finish the quest. Loading a save from before his death is the only way back, but since this is just a side quest, skipping it will not block you from completing the game.
