Palworld: How to Get Crude Oil (All Four Methods)

Every reliable way to farm Crude Oil, from Pal drops to oil field extractors, plus the best base spots.

Every reliable way to farm Crude Oil, from Pal drops to oil field extractors, plus the best base spots.

Crude Oil is one of the most valuable late-game resources in Palworld, feeding into Plasteel, Flamethrower Fuel, Frag Grenades Mk2, and Missile Ammo. It became essential progression material with the Sakurajima Update, and there are exactly four ways to stockpile it.

Quick answer: Build a Crude Oil Extractor (unlocked at level 50 in the Technology menu) on an Oil Field, power it with a Large Generator and electric Pals rated Electricity Lv. 3 or higher, and it produces one Crude Oil roughly every 100 seconds. For faster bulk amounts, siege the Oil Rig or loot Supply Drops.

Four ways to get Crude Oil in Palworld

Each method suits a different playstyle. Extractors give you a steady passive supply, while the Oil Rig and Supply Drops deliver large amounts at once. Here is how they compare.

MethodYieldBest for
Crude Oil Extractor on Oil Fields1 unit every ~100 seconds, passiveSteady long-term farming
Killing or catching Kikit, Sootseer, Maraith1–3 per Pal (50% drop chance)Early access before level 50
Sieging the Oil RigAround 200 per runBig one-time hauls
Looting Supply Drops30–50 per dropOccasional passive pickup

Farming Crude Oil from Pals

Before you can build an extractor, defeating or catching certain Pals is the earliest source. Kikit, Sootseer, and Maraith each have a 50% chance to drop Crude Oil, giving one to three units per Pal.

These Pals are exclusive to Sakurajima Island. Kikit appears on the sandy northern and southern banks of the island, while Sootseer only shows up at night in the cemetery near the Sakura shrine. It is slow, but useful before you unlock the Technology for extraction.

Tapping Oil Fields with a Crude Oil Extractor

The most consistent supply comes from Oil Fields, which appear as dark spots on the map. They are most common in deserts and barren areas, and Sakurajima Island has plenty. The Extractor must be placed directly on an Oil Field to work.

Reach level 50 and unlock the Crude Oil Extractor in the Technology menu. You cannot build it before this point.

Set up a base on top of an Oil Field, then place a Palbox and build the Oil Extractor over the deposit.
Build a Large Generator to power it. A standard Pylon will not supply enough electricity to run the extractor.
Assign at least two electric Pals rated Electricity Lv. 3 or higher. Helzephyr Lux, found on the northern side of Sakurajima Island, meets the requirement, and Orserk has Electricity Lv. 4, making it the fastest option.

With power running, the extractor slowly pulls Crude Oil from the field, producing one unit roughly every 100 seconds. Add beds, Hot Springs, and a Feed Box so your Pals keep working without leaving.

Tip: Giving Orserk the Nocturnal Passive Skill through breeding lets it keep the generators running at night, so extraction never pauses. Filling the Feed Box with Salad keeps Pals fed longer than Berries or Bread, and a Refrigerated Feed Box stops the Salad from spoiling.

Best Crude Oil base locations

The best oil bases sit on top of multiple Oil Fields, ideally alongside other resources so one base covers several needs. These coordinates each hold two Oil Fields.

LocationCoordinatesExtra resources
Dessicated Desert (north of Sand Dunes entrance)289, 243Eight Coal Mines, trees, enemies around Lv. 40
Sakurajima (North-West)-646, 270Sulfur and Coal, open building space
Sakurajima (Central)-552, 192Coal, Treasure Chest between the fields
Sakurajima (East 1)-512, 171Coal, mushroom wall for natural defense
Sakurajima (East 2)-493, 109Sulfur, Mushroom Trees for passive food
Feybreak (West)-1733, -1455Large chests with Ancient Civilization Cores and rare schematics

The Dessicated Desert spot is the friendliest for mid-game players, since its enemies sit around Level 40 rather than the Level 50-plus foes on Sakurajima. Building a Sulfur Quarry, Coal Quarry, or Ore Mining Site inside the same base lets you gather several materials at once, as long as you assign Pals with the matching work suitabilities.

Sieging the Oil Rig and looting Supply Drops

The Oil Rig sits in the ocean on the far southeast side of the map and rewards a successful raid with around 200 Crude Oil. It is heavily defended by anti-air missiles and Rayne Syndicate thugs, who sometimes drop Crude Oil themselves, and its Treasure Chests can also hold the material. Come well equipped before attempting it.

Supply Drops are the last option, holding 30 to 50 Crude Oil each. They only appear a few times per real-world day, so they work best as a passive bonus while you farm through other methods rather than a primary source.

You will know a method worked when Crude Oil appears in your inventory or the Extractor’s output slot. For steady endgame crafting, a powered Oil Field base is the most dependable supply, while the Oil Rig covers you whenever you need a large amount fast.
